I can't recommend this book enough!
I'm gonna start by saying, prior to reading this, I wasn't an enormous "Broken Lizard" fan. However, I WAS an enormous Super Troopers fan! Not only that, but I'm an enormous fan of biographies,...specifically, biographies dealing with the Entertainment Industry! So this was a no brainer! I read Writing Movies for Fun and Profit a few weeks back and we itching for something else similar. This was EXACTLY what I was looking for!I'm sure you're familiar with, at the very least, Super Troopers?! So for the back story on that alone, you should give this a read. However, getting a full understanding of what it took for the guys in Broken Lizard to get where they are is a great story in itself! I discovered this book when Adam F. Goldberg posted a tweet about reading it while watching Jay Chandrasekhar direct one of his shows. I was intrigued!Jay goes into his upbringing by two (incredibly) bright parents. Both being Doctors, he thought about going into that field. However, through a series of mishaps and seemingly random encounters, he ended up forming the "Improve" group, Broken Lizard and going into the Movie Business. What I really like about Jay is the fact that he knew Hollywood would have a problem excepting him and instead of complaining, she did everything his own way and made them love him! You'll get a lot of back story on all of their movies (with the exception of Slammin' Salmon, The ). Not sure why they didn't cover that one, but it's not there. They do talk a LOT about their first film, Puddle Cruiser and all the work that went into creating that one. Not only that, but you also discover just how loyal he is to his friends and why he, and the other members of Broken Lizard, make such a perfect team!Final Verdict: Buy it and read it NOW!

A Superfans's Review
Like other people I preordered this book and waited with great anticipation. Here is my review: Jay's writing style is engaging and easy to read. A lot of the things he writes about I've heard before in interviews and podcasts but there were a few I didn't know about, so I think even superfans will learn something new when they read this. In interviews Jay comes across as being cocky and a little too self-assured, but not in his book. I like the self-deprecation sprinkled throughout. I'm eagerly waiting for Super Troopers II. This book is something to tide me over until then. If you have't already, check out the podcast "Chewin It" with Kevin and Steve. They occassionally have other Broken Lizard castmates on, Jay most recently.

Great but never tells you if he's native american or not
He's not, that's clickbait for fools. Review: A short, light read with a good sense of humor and lots of little interesting personal/business/hollywood insights. The Burt Reynolds stories were great and make him seem like more of a legend. Nice to read about Broken History's history, the fact they crossed paths with The State, Chandrasekhar's work outside Broken Lizard (cool that he worked on Undeclared). Worth a read but if you're expecting The Kid Stays in the Picture you better hope Chandrasekhar starts doing waaaaay more coke because this is essentially a nerd's story.

I knew it'd be good, but I did not expect it to be ...
I was excited to read his book. I knew it'd be good, but I did not expect it to be a total page turner. I really loved it! It was well-written, honest and of course, funny. Even though I knew Jay while he was in college, I still learned a lot about him. I hadn't known his and the group's Hollywood journey and I found that stuff engaging. Jay's personal story was raw and honest, yet laced with his personal charm. I highly recommend this book especially while waiting for the Super Troopers II release!

Solid read from beginning to end
I'm a huge Super Troopers fan and always admit that it is my favorite comedy. If you too love the film, this is a MUST read. The chapters about the making of the film had me laughing so hard I often had to break to wipe tears from my eyes so I could continue reading. Even if you aren't a fan of the Broken Lizard films, this is a solid read from beginning to end. I loved it! Couldn't put it down. Bravo. Patiently (14 years+ of patience) waiting for Super Troopers II.

Great read, even if you don’t want a mustache ride
I'm admittedly biased as I consider myself a huge Broken Lizard fan, I donated enough to Super Troopers 2 that Farva owes me a liter of cola.....with that disclaimer out of the way I must say I loved this book. Very well written and great insight into how the troupe formed along with details on some of their projects. I would have loved a little more depth towards the end of the book, even 30 more pages would have been welcomed, but I’ll just wait for the sequel.

I learned a great deal about all them that I had not known
Even knowing Jay and the boys from College, I learned a great deal about all them that I had not known. Jay's writing is clear and conversational. It is unvarnished and he lays out his wins and mistakes equally. I thought it was really interesting to be in the room as they tried to sell their movies and the process that they went through. Part memoir part how to make it in the film business. I found it to be refreshing, honest and funny. Highly recommend it.

funny and engaging shaped by honesty and openness
For Lizard fans out there, this is a must read. For those who aren't (yet), you are in for a quite a treat. This isn't a tell-all with ribald, wacky stories about Jay and the boys doing crazy things (well, not every chapter anyway), it's an extremely well considered, well-paced and thoughtful book. Jay provides a number of pithy and insightful observations on life, race, education and of course, TV and film. The writing is clear, funny and engaging shaped by honesty and openness. You won't be able to put it down.
