Very enjoyable book. Really need to read the first book to have an idea of Ben's past. Will help to know more of what's going on. I already have the third in the series.

Another Thrilling Page-Turner!
Fast and engrossing, Nitro Express delivers on the legacy of Mr. Whitehill's first novel, Deadrise, and builds on the growing bona fides of reluctant protagonist Ben Blackshaw. Plot-twists and danger abound as Ben Blackshaw dodges fire from all directions, never quite knowing who to trust, as he tries feverishly to extricate himself from the back-dealing of ruthless power brokers. Nitro Express draws you in with all the intrigue of classic Cold War spycraft. The world that Mr. Whitehill has created once again teems with complexities of multinational politics, rogue militants, and government agencies fraught with the morally compromised. Whitehill regales his readers with over-the-top characters constructed like a multi-tiered cake, rich with distinctive language and piled high with hidden motives and machinations. The familiar characters of Blackshaw and his compatriots are joined by a chorus of new allies and enemies, and leave the reader to wonder just how much difference exists between them.

Better than Deadrise, but...
Whitehill' s storytelling in this book was not too over the top--if you accept Ben's ability to prevail against trained killers when the odds are against him--but too often he (Whitehill) relies on the timely intervention of friends and strangers to get his bacon out of the skillet. He does seem to know his guns and boats--well enough to satisfy my limited knowledge--and imparts his expertise in a far more readable manner than Tom Clancy.

Blackshaw Is The Man
Nitro Express pulled me in. The detail in Whitehill's writing is amazing. How could one write with such exacting, vivid even, precision without having been there? Many wish to play ball like Mike. I want to write like Whitehill. I purchased the book set too. Am I fan or victim or am I one in the same? I don't want to give the thrilling end to this book away but it's definitely an interesting twist. If you are a lover of espionage, conspiracy and or plain and simple books that have an easy to identify with hero then this is it. With all the action in this episode Blackshear for PS4 has got to be next. I can't wait to read Deadrise and Tap Rack Bang.
