My previous and current trucks are both Fords, and I always had difficulty hooking up safety chains. Some times you could try to work them in sideways, and maybe get them to latch, but they would often end up wedged in there and were just all around difficult.These were a pretty easy install. Just a few hits with a mini sledge got the pins locked in. My camper and utility trailer safety chains latch right in with no issues, buy my flatbed car/equipment trailer hooks are just ever so slightly too small to get around the diameter of the shackle. I'm hoping I can find a new set that are large enough to get on the shackle.I did find that the extra length caused by the shackle really makes the safety chains hang too low. At some point I will have to remove a link or two to prevent the excess slack. Neither of my issues are really a design flaw-more just simply the nature of this kind of device.

These 12,000 lb links worked wonderfully with our 2022 F250 Ford truck. As others have mentioned many trailer safety chain hooks are difficult to snap on and unhook from the late model Ford truck trailer hitches.To simplify installation of these links we discard the pins and bushings, and use Grade 8 bolts to secure the two links together. Use:Two 3/8-24 TPI Grade 8 bolts (4" long).Two 3/8-24 TPI Grade 8 Nylon Insert Lock Nuts (Often called "aircraft lock nuts").Four 5/16" (not 3/8) Grade 8 Flat Washers. (3/8" washers work but are loose and "stick out" on edges).All available at most good hardware stores and ranch supply stores.Install time: 3 minutes for both links.We have five late Ford trucks equipped this way. Super sanitary clean looking installation.One F150, one F250, and three F350s.

Do you own a Ford truck and struggle connecting trailer safety chains or can’t connect them at all? This is what you want right here! Bit of a pain to install but worth it when you are finished. A ball peen hammer and a bit of lubricant is all you need for a simple install.

Took me about 20 min to install the pair, first one went in fairly easy, about 5 min. next one didnt want to go on straight but I eventually got it. Make sure you have a small sledgehammer, like 2.5 lb or 5 lb. Once installed, I dont see these ever coming loose, which leads to the next problem, they are definatley not portable, moving from one truck to the next. If I had to buy again, I would probably go with the style that screws in and use some lock tight liquid on the threads.

We adhere to DOT rules and with the connections on the newer pickup trucks, we were having a tough time attaching the chains properly. Found some people using what appear to be large enough shackles, but read them.... they are not rated properly for heave trailers. These hammer locks are great. Rated high enough and wont easily "walk away" from your truck. Don't use the wrong attachments, and don't half way attach the chains. Use these, they are great. A little pricey but that work well.

Great product. Strong durable. Works great for what I’m using it for. Instead of using the pins provided I used 3/8 x 4 inch grade 8 bolts with a nylon locking nut. Makes for easier install and removal later. YouTube videos make it look easy to instal the pins. Not the case. Bolts much easier.
