Real leather! But!
These are real leather and very well made, BUT! They stink like floral perfume. Imagine an Indian floral scented soap or perfume (that's what it reminds me of, sorry!). Now drown the handles in it. That's what it smelled like. Not like leather, which was what I was expecting, but this lingering, overwhelming, cloying, clinging floral perfume smell that actually stuck to my skin after handling them. I had trouble scrubbing it off! If I was noise blind or didn't mind the strong floral scent, I guess it would have been okay. As they were, they weren't going in my house--it would have stunk everything up to an unbearable degree. These are really solidly made, so it seemed a shame to return them--real leather anything is hard to find on Amazon. I tried washing them with Dawn Platinum (so a super strong dish soap), let them soak for a few hours in soapy water, tried using rubbing alcohol to clean the outside, tried airing them outside for a couple days, and even tried soaking them in coffee to see if I could replace smells. None of that worked. BTW, all of that hot water and rubbing alcohol and soap and scrubbing did nothing to the dye; it didn't bleed or anything. So I went to plan B, which was de-construction. I suspected that the inner core to the handle that helped the leather keep it's round shape was the source of the smell. So I sliced the stitching (a scalpel blade, in this case, because I needed something thin) where the two cut edges are sewn together, and pulled out the cores for each handle. I left the hardware intact because it's decent hardware, and I wanted to use it when I redid the handles. Each one had a different material and they were both super stinky; one was a woven type of cotton cord, pretty sturdy, and the other was a bundled group of what looked like elastic cords. I have some similar sized jute cord that I'm going to try out; if it doesn't, I'll find a cotton cord. Then I picked out all the stitching thread with fingers and some tweezers, and coated each handle (all the leather, front and back) in a thick coating of Persil. I've had good luck with it removing grease stains and the linen scent was less troublesome than the existing floral scent. Then both handles went in a delicates bag (for laundry) and thrown in the wash; once done, they were hung outside on a clothes line to dry. Washing did transfer a little bit of dye to the delicates bag, but it wasn't enough to notice any fading or do any harm to the towels that were in with it. Once dry, the leather had returned to it's flat shape and all I can smell now is the Persil, which is a little strong, but soooo much better! Success! I'll sew everything back up once I can sit down long enough to do so, and the handles will be as good as new!TLDR: solidly built actual leather handles with fairly sturdy hardware, but may come smelling like a floral catastrophe. Could have been an isolated case. I'm fairly capable at sewing, so deconstruction and rebuilding was an option I didn't mind doing.

Leather bag straps
Good quality

Other colors would work
The straps themselves are good quality replacement straps the buckle works perfectly for cutting off old straps and replacing. The only thing is the color is off they are very red compared to a true cognac or tan so I won’t be able to use them

First Day- Looks Great
It's just the first day that I replaced the new straps. But they look great and match my bad perfectly. I reallyove my bag and wore out the original straps. But the new straps make it look almost new again. I'll have to see how they hold up after some wear-n-tear though.
