A Profound Perspective on God's Wealth
I've known all my Christian life that all blessings, money, wealth, health, etc comes from God.Ellen White shows and tells how many so called "Christians" rob God by not even paying their tithes, let alone offerings. She discusses in great detail the need to help the poor and needy instead of gratifying our own desires, of which she says is 'worldly' and will not last forever. She discusses investing in stocks, real estate, and get-rich quick schemes and advises that such money should be returned to the Lord for His work and purposes, and takes on the mantra "It is better to give than to receive."An eye-opening book that has changed my thoughts about building wealth and planning for retirement. All throughout her life, she gave of what little she had and she made it all the way through her retirement years and to her final resting place with joy, security and happiness in the Lord ~ something I hope to emulate. Highly recommended reading.P.S. I have this book on my Kindle and the text is clear and easy to read and am satisfied with the Kindle version.

A COMPILATION OF THE SDA FOUNDER’S TEACHINGS ON THIS SUBJECT
Ellen Gould White (1827-1915) was the co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She claimed to have received numerous visions and dreams from God throughout her life. [NOTE: page numbers below refer to a 372-page paperback edition.]She asks, “Has not the time come when we should begin to cut down our possessions? May God help you who can do something now to make an investment in the bank of heaven. We do not ask a loan, but a freewill offering---a return to the Master of His own goods which He has lent you. If you love God supremely, and your neighbor as yourself, we will give tangible proofs of the same in freewill offerings for our mission work. There are souls to be saved, and may you be coworkers with Jesus Christ I saving these souls for whom Christ has given His life… The great outpouring of the Spirit of God , which lightens the whole earth with His glory, will not come until we have an enlightened people, that know by experience what it means to be laborers together with God.” (Pg. 51-52)She states, “God calls upon those who have possessions in lands and homes, to sell, and to invest the money where it will be supplying the great want in the missionary field. When once they have experienced the real satisfaction that comes from thus doing, they will keep the channel open, and the means the Lord entrusts to them will be constantly flowing into the treasury, that souls may be converted. These souls will, in their turn, practice the same self-denial, economy and simplicity, for Christ’s sake, that they, too, may bring their offerings to God.” (Pg. 58)She asserts, “As did Abraham, they are to pay tithe of all they possess and all they receive. A faithful tithe is the Lord’s portion. To withhold it is to rob God. Every man should freely and willingly and gladly bring tithes and offerings into the storehouse of the Lord, because in so doing there is a blessing.” (Pg. 66-67)She says, “This matter of giving is not left to impulse. God has given us definite instruction in regard to it. He has specific tithes and offerings as the measure of our obligation. And He desires us to give regularly and systematically… Let each regularly examine his income, which is all a blessing from God, and set apart the tithe as a separate fund, to be sacredly the Lord’s.” (Pg. 80-81)She notes, “Many have long neglected to deal honestly with their Maker. Failing to lay aside the tithe weekly, they have let it accumulate, until it amounts to a large sum, and now they are very reluctant to make the matter right. This back tithe they keep, using it as their own. But it is God’s property, which they have refused to put into His treasury.” (Pg. 96)She clarifies, “it is wrong to use the tithe for defraying the incidental expenses of the church. In this there has been a departure from correct methods. It would be far better to dress less expensively, cut down your indulgences, practice self-denial and meet these outgoings. By so doing you will have a clear conscience. But you are robbing God every time that you put your hands into the treasury for funds to meet the running expenses of the church.” (Pg. 103)She laments, “There are men in the ranks of Sabbathkeepers who are holding fast their earthly treasure. It is their god, their idol; and they love their money, their farms, their cattle, and their merchandise better than then love their Saviour, who for their sakes became poor, that they, through His poverty, might be made rich.” (Pg. 123)She points out, “The Bible does not condemn the rich man because he is rich; it does not declare the acquisition of wealth to be a sin, nor does it say that money is the root of all evil. On the contrary, the Scriptures state that it is God who gives the power to get wealth.” (Pg. 138)She explains, “You inquire with respect to the propriety of receiving gifts from Gentiles or the heathen. The question is not strange; but I would ask you, Who is it that owns our world? Who are the real owners of houses and lands? Is it not God? He has an abundance in our world which he has placed in the hands of men, by which He has placed in the hands of men, by which the hungry might be supplied with food, the naked with clothing, the homeless with homes. The Lord would move upon worldly men, even idolaters, to give of their abundance for the support of the work, if we would approach them wisely, and give them an opportunity of doing those things which it is their privilege to do. What they would give we should be privileged to receive. We should become acquainted with men in high places, and by exercising the wisdom of the serpent, and the harmlessness of the dove, we might obtain advantage from them, for God would move upon their minds to do many things in behalf of His people.” (Pg. 185)She advises, “Not only on birthdays should parents and children remember the mercies of the Lord in a special way , but Christmas and New Year’s should also be seasons when every household should remember their Creator and Redeemer. Instead of bestowing gifts and offerings in such abundance on human objects, reverence, honor, and gratitude should be rendered to God… When you have a holiday, make it a pleasant and happy day for your children, and make it a also a pleasant day for the poor and the afflicted… You can teach your children a lesson while you explain to them the reason why you have made a change in the value of their presents, telling them that you are convinced that you have hitherto considered their pleasure more than the glory of God…. in making presents to those who did not need them, than you have of advancing the cause of God. (Pg. 296-297)This book will appeal mostly to SDAs, of course; but other Christians interested in such topics may be interested, as well.
