You Get What You Pay For
In a nutshell, I received this product barely 2 weeks ago, used it once, now it's not working properly. Sent back for a full refund to put towards a better quality tester.I purchased this tester because a) it was much less expensive than my previous one (Milwaukee Martini Instruments pH 55), b) it seemed to have decent reviews, and c) the product seemed like it would meet my basic needs just fine based on the manufacturers description of how it worked, how to maintain it, etc. This was not the case after receiving it.I haven't seen reviews for testers used to test the pH of animal urine but based on my dog's vet's recommendation, I purchased a tester a few years ago for at home testing in between vet visits. I use a pH tester to test my dog's urine pH on a regular basis (weekly, sometimes more, sometimes much less frequent) due to his medical condition. This has saved me hundreds of dollars and hours that would have been spent at the vet over the years so having a tester is very valuable to me. Accuracy is important but I'm not a scientist woking in a lab, nor a brewer but I need something more reliable than paper pH test strips. The instructions state that the tester comes precalibrated so I didn't want to waste buffer powder if not needed. I checked the pH of distilled white vinegar (which should be about 2.4) just to get an idea of whether it was close enough. It was, so I proceeded to test my dog's urine following the instructions exactly. The reading seemed to be accurate, I thought it was great because of the ease of use and I rinsed the end and stored it exactly as the instructions state.I pulled it out again only 1 week later to use for only the 2nd time and saw the reading was way off at 5.6 (normally around 7.3-8.2). I calibrated it with the 6.86 and 4.01 buffer powders following instructions exactly. It seemed like it calibrated correctly but when I checked it by inserting it into the buffer solutions again, it was still very off. I calibrated it again following the same steps in the instructions, same issues but now the tester was stuck on 7.00. The instructions state that if that happens to remove the batteries then put them back in which resets the tester. I did that, it started 'working' again so I calibrated it for a THIRD time this time using all 3 buffer powders including the 9.18. As before, it SEEMED to calibrate right, but when placed back in the buffer solutions to test if the calibration was accurate both the 6.86 and 4.01 solutions were off. 6.86 was too high and 4.01 was too low. Oddly the 9.18 solution tested right but how can I be certain it would be accurate trying to test anything else?Dealing with having to call customer service, possibly having to go buy new batteries which may not even be the problem and potentially having to have another one shipped that has the same issues is not worth it to me. I learned my lesson not to buy something this cheap when I need reliability. My previous tester, Milwaukee Martini Instruments pH 55, cost about $60 but lasted over three years without changing any parts (not even batteries). The electrode replacement on those are almost as much as a new unit so I thought I'd save some money and buy a new less expensive brand. I'm not sure if I'll get another Milwaukee Martini Instruments pH 55, but whatever I get will not be something this unreliable.Pros:-One of the more inexpensive pH testers out there-Easy for anyone to use (as long as it works properly)-You do not have to store the electrode in solution/water when not in use (according to the instructions)-Case and drying cloth it comes with is convenient-Comes with 2 sets of buffer powders (3 pH levels each) for calibratingCons:-It worked once before sending it back and I'm not even sure now if that reading was actually accurate-May not be as accurate as indicated in description-Buffer materials are in powder form, not liquid like I've been used to. This wouldn't be an issue if the powders all completely dissolved in water like they're supposed to instead of floating to the bottom of the glass in chunks no matter how long you mix them.

It's a bit of a bother to calibrate. Once ...
It's a bit of a bother to calibrate. Once that is done it works excellently for my needs, which do not include that second decimal point of precision.

Works Fantastic
Needed an easy way to test PH levels of honey and of Tomato sauces, Tested the unit with a known PH liquid and this unit showed the PH within .01. Easy to use Easy to clean, They even sent calibration packets to keep it accurate for years to come. I cannot recommend this enough, Would give it 6 stars if possibleThank you

Company didn't respond to 3 emails requesting technical assistance
I bought this pH meter on June 17th. I used it a lot and it worked well for about a month. Then I realized that the calibration was off so I tried to recalibrate it per the instructions that came with it. It was difficult and there are two sets of instructions that are not identical. Anyway, I used the buffer solutions to recalibrate it. I did not succeed in recalibrating it correctly. While the instructions were confusing, I'm sure part of it is on me. Now here's where we get to the problem. I went on the company's website site 3 times between July 15th and August 12th asking where I could get or purchase more buffer solution to try to recalibrate my meter correctly. It is now August 24th and I have never heard back from the company. Nothing. So, I've been without a meter since July 15th. I will now buy one from a different company.

They are all the same chicom junk
BUYER BEWARE! These cheapo-chicom-made units are all exactly the same or very similar. The only difference being the price and color. This is the third meter under $25 that we've bought. They have all been somewhat easy to calibrate. However keeping the calibration is where they all start to suck. They don't hold an accurate calibration. And once you're out of calibration powders, the unit is rendered worthless. Even getting a reading that is remotely close is difficult because these POS meters don't automatically reset to zero. Going to spend a little more on Blue Lab, hopefully they are better.

Money well spent.
Works great so far. And relieved to know that the water ph I’ve been supplying my plants in within the range I desire. Money well spent

It's not worth the time it takes to read the product listing
It's a nice looking unit. And it seems to work. Only it read distilled water as having a pH over 9. And it was unable to calibrate with included calibration solutions. It was off by enough to be completely useless.I've asked the vendor for help, so, now it's in the vendor's hands. If they take care of this, I'll update the review. If they don't, I'll update the review. The vendor sent me an automated email saying they were happy I'd purchased their product and asking if I was happy with it. I responded that I was not.Neither the emails to their support email address nor the replies to their email garnered any response. It doesn't work reliably or well.I purchased a competitor's product which does work, and which verified that the test solutions packaged with this unit were correctly made and labelled. It's just their meter that can't read them.I'm sure some people have had good luck with this product, I'm just not one of them.
