Betty Lukens Small Deluxe Felt Bible Story Set

There is nothing like Betty Luken's flannel! I have taught Sunday School for 35 years, and this is the best set I've ever found. It comes complete with figures, background flannel mounted on boards, and a teaching guide. These figures and back grounds are drawn in such a way, it makes everything look real. I love to set up the scene, and then just step back and look. The only draw back is you have to cut out all of the figures yourself, but its worth the process. To my mind, this is a treasure any dedicated teacher can not do without.

It’s cute but geez it’s a TON of cutting! Def not a fast project and not all of the images are numbered so it was fun trying to find their correct place to go in the storage system. But it looks like it will be a good learning tool for our preschool

This set is awesome.My mom uses it to do bible study lessons w/my 5 and 2 year old daughters. They both love it. Both my mom and I are highly impressed w/the quality of it, the great lesson plans with it and the cd to use to print off coloring sheets.Now, there is a lot of cutting. All of the felt pieces come on one large sheet and you will have to cut them out. But my mom cuts out just what she needs for that weeks lesson the night before the girls go over.Highly recommend for anyone looking for a way to help break down bible stories/lessons to children, no matter what age.

Too many small items to cut out. It’s very hard to keep everything in order Punch out paper figures would work better. It was so overwhelming I had to pay a grand daughter to cut it out.

The colors are wonderful and it helps children recall the stories. They look forward to putting pieces on the boards and especially "scene changes!". As you get more comfortable with the stories and character pieces, you can get creative too!The hardest part is cutting out all the pieces. I bought a good pair of small scissors at Hobby Lobby. It makes it much easier to cut small pieces. Also, cut what you will need when you prep for the story! That way it isn't such a chore. I quick cut everything and placed it in the file box in proper page order. Then you can find the pieces you need and finish cut.

Wow! The reviews weren't kidding when they said it could take weeks for cut out everything! I'm still not finished after several days/hours of intense work. I had to stop because my hands were cramped and I had bruising on my middle finger and thumb from the constant rubbing of the scissors. Seriously.Anyway, intense labor aside, this is a wonderful tool for making the Bible come alive to children and adults. It's a fun way to get them involved with the lessons instead of just sitting there taking it all in and often getting antsy. The retellings are short but accurate. The aim/main truth is very good. The verse is applicable to even small children. I've listened to the audio that can go along with this set, but it's terrible. You'd be better off with Kidz Bible which is a ministry of Faith Comes By Hearing. However, I don't think you can/should use both the audio and try to tell the story from the book. It would take a long time and young children would lose interest.My only beef with this set is its lack of diversity. 99% of the people are Caucasian. All the angels are Caucasian, all children are Caucasian, all preachers/pastors are Caucasian, as well as all people pictured in the Heaven scenes. It's quite disturbing and out of touch with reality. I teach in a children's program overseas and I'm praying the kids don't get wrong ideas about people and Christians and Jesus. These felts don't represent anyone with any shade of brown skin. You have to weigh that risk against what you are trying to accomplish in the program or lesson.Besides all that, the kids love it and are super interested in hearing God's Word. How wonderful to plant seeds in their little hearts and watch the Holy Spirit make them grow and bear fruit!

Yes, there is a lot of cutting to do. But, the figures are colorful, easy to arrange on the organization sheets that come with the deluxe set. My husband has built a wooden cabinet with sliding drawers to accommodate the sheets that hold the figures rather than using the cardboard box that came with the set. We want several of our Bible teachers to easily use the set.

As my title says, I never write reviews, but I simply had to because of how impressed I was with this set. As the other reviews state, it is a bit of a pain having to cut the items out myself, but this set is so well organized and great quality, I am fine doing it. This set comes with 3 boards, tons of scenery and characters. It comes with a filing system and box to store it in. I love it. The customer service was excellent too. :)
