He and I enjoyed the book immensely
I was looking for a book that might, in a non-literal way, speak to my son's experience. He is nonverbal and uses a wheelchair. He is not literally in a bubble but.... He and I enjoyed the book immensely. The scene between Joe and Amir made me appreciate how much of the sensual world my son takes in and responds to intensely.Reading it to him made me appreciate the author's ability to speak to our lives without intending to. That is, afterall, the definition of art.

Excellent book!
The condition of the book was excellent--even better than described by the seller. And the book itself was amazing! Highly recommend.

Parental Heads-up - Not for many kids under 10
In truth we haven't yet finished Bubble, and I'm very glad I'm reading it with my 10 year-old 4th grade daughter as some of the content can be confusing and scary. Obviously I like keeping her in her own age-appropriate bubble, but she chose this book at the school book fair, started it and then asked if I would read it to her instead as she was finding it confusing. There are references to school shootings (the boy watches TV and comments sometimes on what he sees), an accident with some gory detail, and just a lot of heavy material for the average 10 year-old to process. I would be very sad to discover my daughter had confronted much of this material without my guidance. I would never compare this book to Palaccio's Wonder as another reviewer did.

A great read indeed. An easy 5 stars from me.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Bubble Boy - A touching and inspirational story about a young lad called Joe, who's lived the entire eleven years of his life in the same hospital room, due to a life threatening immune disorder. Until one day...Stewart Foster has a very easy readable quality to his writing, and as well as creating great characters he's also reminded me how fortunate we all are in our lives, to be free to come and go as we please and how we should never take even the tiniest every day things for granted.A great read indeed. An easy 5 stars from me.

I love love loved this book ā¤ļøš
I started this book thinking it was going to be mediocre but oh my goodness was I pleasantly surprised!! I loved it from start to finish and couldn't wait to keep reading more and more. How the author draws you into Joe's everyday life is amazing. You would think that a story about a boy stuck in a hospital room everyday would be boring, but the way in which it is written just keeps you enthralled.I absolutely loved all the characters and found myself being wrapped up in their lives.Only one thing against it, is that I wanted more and was gutted when I came to the end.I love, love, loved this book.............

Not all superheroes wear capes...
MG fiction age 9+ emotion, empathy, friendship.Stewart Foster has a gift for creating characters so real you believe in them, root for them, know them as friends and won't want to leave them.Joe is one such friend. His medical condition confines him to a hospital room and his only regular visitor is his sister, Beth. He has a wonderful nurse Greg who is kind, caring and does a great job of looking after Joe.And then there is Amir... you will be intrigued by him and you'll want to get to know him too.The prospect of a story set (almost) entirely in a hospital room may not seem like something that would take you anywhere, but in fact Joe's journey leads to the very powerful realisation that it is the simple things in life that matter the most: seeing the stars in the sky, watching the sunrise, finding friendship. When you've read the last page you'll want to go back to the beginning and start all over again... simply because you'll miss Joe's voice in your head.

A brilliant, emotive page-turner. Loved it.
This is an absolute gem of a book which kept me alternating between moments of buzzing curiosity as I created wild theories about where the story was going, and pure heartbreak. I'm taking this into my Year 6 class tomorrow and I know it will he passed around and loved by many of them. Would be suitable for younger years but not much younger than 9 or 10 I'd say.

Unusual and compelling take on a a very different sort of life
This book is refreshing because it is so different to what is on offer for this age group. I would say it is best suited to 9 - 12 year olds. Almost entirely set in one hospital room as the main character, Joe, is room bound due to health, the author skilfully engages us in Joe's life, worries, hopes and fears. The ending is not entirely happy but I think some children will appreciate this, as I frequently hear a "why does everything have a happy ending" lament in school.

This book is so amazing and emotional
This book made me cry. No other book I have ever read (apart from Harry potter) has made me cry. It is so amazing and emotional and wonderful and I wish this was a series because I would get the whole series and read them in one day.The "bubble boy" (joe) is an inspirational person who is stuck in a bubble like hospital room, which he cannot leave. But he tries and tried and a nurse who many people think crazy changes that.....There is also another bubble boy called Henry who joe is friends with but something shocking happens. Please read this book
