Perfect Way To Begin
The best way to start learning calligraphy. Comes with a great pen so you don't have to spend a ton of money on tools. Love the design sheets in the back. Strongly recommend to anyone getting their start.

I'm so glad that I purchased this kit! I have been wanting to learn more about calligraphy for a long time, but found other guides rather intimidating... and at this point in my life, I could not find the time to do the exercises that seemed to be required before you can actually start.Enter _this_ kit. All you need to get going, plus a more fun approach - just get started! ;-) Maybe not for everyone, but this suits me very much; it's a great place to start, and I would definitely recommend it - or give it as a gift. :-)

Not bad, but it's really only for the "I've never tried brush calligraphy and have no idea about any of it" type of beginner.
It's a good book, especially for a beginner. I am a moderate beginner, and I learned how to do calligraphy from research online (youtube especially). The book gives you the same tips you can find online through a little research, so I wouldn't say it's worth $30. If they sold it for $10 or $15 dollars without the pen, I would be more prone to buying such book, because I have my own pens, but I understand this book is for someone who is just getting started and has nothing, so if that person is you, I would say "go for it". It's not a bad book, by any means, just not good for someone who already knows the basic "upstroke=light pressure, downstroke=firm pressure" techniques. I find the paper challenging to write on, but that's only because I am used to the XL Marker paper and Rhodia, so I liked the fact that I could try a different type of paper. Overall, I would say, if you have no clue about calligraphy and have 30 bucks to spend, this book will teach you a few things, but if you already know the basics and are just wanting to improve, don't buy it. Maybe I misunderstood that this was only for the "beginner" beginner.
