Sunset function trick - UPDATE
Great little gadget. There is a sunset on/off feature, unfortunately you cannot set it to go on or off so many minutes before or after sunset, only at sunset. Took a star off for that! You can still use the timer function to automatically turn on a light, but with the change of seasons the timer has to be adjusted every couple of weeks or more...UPDATE 12/19/2017: I am now using a little trick to set the plug (light) to go on 20 or so minutes before sunset. There is no option in the app, you can only turn it on exactly at sunset. However, you can change your location in the App. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have now set my location in the app to Nye County, NV. Now my lamp turns on when it is getting a bit dark, right on time! You can use online maps, like SunCalc.net to find a place with a sunset xx minutes before yours, and be at around the same latitude.Steps:Create Scene (Click on "+" on the Scenes screen)Add a Condition -> Sunrise/Sunset -> Check Sunset and Click on Current City, now move the map to where sunset is 20 minutes earlier then at your placeSaveAdd a Task, ....Hope you think it is useful!

Love smart plugs
I like this. It works great with my phone, however I have been unable to get it to connect to Alexa. I did not have any trouble connecting my TP-link plug I put in my bedroom with Alexa. It really isn't a problem because I wanted it particularly to turn on before coming into a dark house. I can turn it on while I am still in the car. One thing I particularly like is that I can turn these plugs on from my phone which enables me to have random on and off when I am away from home.

Hope you love setting it up constatnly
Every time you update app, you have to log back in. Doesnt let you use password manager so good luck remembering it when you need it. Once you log back in, you have to set up like new. Exhausting. Once set up, doesnt recognize any devices currently online. Even though i can see a lamp plugged into it currently working. Have t add all devices back in. which i dont know how to do. Wont recognize ones around even though there is scanning functionality. Loved these when they worked but they are such a hassle. What happened to this company???? I bought four and went all in with them and i feel ripped off

I have 6 of these..But...
Bought six of these thinking they were solely dependent on your home WiFi and your Google "Home" app. The product uses a additional app called "Smart Life" to register and control/integrate with Google "Home" app. The Smart Life server frequently goes down and leaves you to manually switching on/off your outlets. I would say 97% uptime. (I know.. first-world problems right?) To their credit, firmware updates have occurred within the past year to keep the product updated & safe from hackers I guess? My only concern is for the low price of these is where the service is located and privacy issues. But in fairness, that could be with any company, brand well-known or not. I think I will try some of the IFTTT app features.

Piece of cake to setup and use
This little remote control socket is super easy to install. It only took about 5 minutes to set up. You download the app on your phone from the App Store by searching or scanning the QR code. After setting up the app it's just a couple of clicks to add the outlet. On the Alexa app you add the skill for the remote outlet and discover new devices. Now you can control the socket from your phone or voice command thru Alexa. The only negative I found is the lack of an iPad app.

not compatible with IFTTT anymore
Update 5/2020. No longer compatible with IFTTT. All value lost.Fantastic. Works with Smart Life app. Easy to use. The only downside is that Smart Life is not recognized by hubs (Wink et al). If you're looking to make your whole house smart, this might be a dealbreaker. But if you have one (or even a few) devices, this is a great, affordable product.Update: I've now bought a second one and it, too, does the job easily and affordably. This time I bought for xmas lights, but once the season passes I know I'll attach it to another device.

Have patience and read directions. WiFi setting is VIP. 2.5 GHZ. NOT 5.0
Tried to connect afew different types over the past year and they all sucked, wouldn't connect, the instructions were so small and there are so many different ways to connect different one's that you need to download certain apps but THIS INE TOOK 5 MINUTE'S. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE 2.5 ON WIFI SETTINGS AND THAT'S IT, NOW I DON'T HAVE TO TRIP OVER MY DOGS TOY'S TO TURN MY LIGHT'S ON WHEN I COME HOME. JUST NEED TO ASK MY GIRL ALEX TI. TURN ON LIVING ROOM LIGHT. YOU CAN NAME IT WHATEVER YOU WANT WHICH IS FINE. SO FOR 10 BUCK'S THIS WAS THE DEAL OF THE CENTURY. NOW I WILL ORDER A 4 PACK SINCE I LIKE TO TRY BEFORE I BUY MORE THAN ONE!

Great device, initially confusing set up with Google Home but easy to do.
I've only had it a day, so I can't speak to the longevity of it, but so far so good. My only issue was the setup with Google Home, but I that was more of a Home app thing, nothing to do with the device itself. It took me a while to figure it out, and I almost sent the device back thinking it didn't work, but once I figured it out it was actually very easy. To link your plug to Google Home, you have to set up the device under "Home Control" in the main menu of the Google Home App, and NOT under "Devices". Make sure you set the smart plug up and register for an account with the SmartLife App FIRST, and then you should simply have to log in to your account through the Google Home App instead to link the devices. Don't waste your time with Wifi hotspots and AP mode like the Google Home App and suggests under devices, go straight to Home Control and it's quick and easy from there. Screenshots attached.

Works amazing. Just check your load limit! 1250w MAX!
BE AWARE OF THE LOAD LIMIT. This little thing works great. Just be aware that the load limit is 1250 watts. Space heaters and AC units can use upto 1500 watts which can fry this little guy and potentially cause a fire. Or in some cases, if you have a full power strip going into this thing. However for general use, it's awesome and works very well with Google Home.I did a test with a space heater and after just 1 hour, the unit smelt like burning plastic and the metal prongs got too hot to touch. If you need something stronger, there are other units that can handle upto 1800 watts.

Smart Life app and Google home app appear to be a little dumb
These plugs do their job. As other reviewers already mentioned, you need to install the "Smart Life" app on your phone to control the plugs, so the flow is: smart plug > Smart Life app > Google Home app. The main issue for me is that the Smart Life app as of now (May 2018) is actually quite dumb (1.0 version, might get better with time, one can hope). The only way to add a new Smart Life device, is to disconnect the app from Google Home first, then re-connect it (by typing your phone no. and pwd again). I could not find a way to add a new device without disconnecting the app first, because you cannot select a "new" service in Google Home app, if the service is already there (so maybe the stupidity is shared between Smart Life and Google Home apps). Every time you disconnect the Smart Life app, you lose any custom settings you had on Google Home, for instance name and location (room). It's best to rename the devices in the Smart Life app (before you connect it to Google Home), so at least the device name is retained.

OMG Its literally so fun
Just got this today and its so fun to use. I got that free Google Home Mini thing from my Spotify membership so I was like...might aswell get this too. I use it for my fairy lights in my room because its annoying to get up and plug it in every single time. Cant wait for my google home mini to arrive so I can just say "OK google, turn off my lights!".This makes life so much easier. The setup is easy, the app is easy to use and overall its so fun! You just tap a button on the app and they turn off and on. The instructions and everything are in the little box this comes in. ALSO.. THE PRICE? sis... you cant go wrong with this.

Great once you manage to link it...
Once you manage to link these, they work great. Had one for about 3 months, and it never let me down. However, I managed to link my first plug to the Smart Life app due to a happy coincidence, after several attempts. 3 months later, once I wanted to link a second socket to my Smart Life app, it didn't find the device. After a few hours of it not working and me being angry, I deleted the app from my phone and reinstalled it from scratch. Worked like a charm (due to updates not downloading maybe? The app was slightly different after that...), and now I have my 2 sockets linked. Planning on buying more. Now, to link to your Google Home (since alot of people are asking), best way is to find your Google Assistant's settings, and go to "Home Control" (under "Services"). Click the "+" button, and scroll down to select "Smart Life". Enter your Smart Life credentials, and all your compatible devices should now be linked.Cheers
