Miracle Product
Miracle liquid right before my very eyes. This stuff works!!I would still recommend banging and brushing scaly rust off, followed by intense power washing, then let dry completely. Spray on with a spray bottle, then spread with a cheap brush. After it is completely cured it may look purplish-Black. Very stubborn areas will need more than 1 coat. After I’m finished, I plan to paint with Rustoleum.Update April 2021: I have found that it periodically needs additional application as new rust forms, but it definitely slows the progression of the rust.1. Power wash, get as much scaling and loose rust off as possible. Thorough, aggressive power wash.2. Tap rust areas with a hammer. Use wire brush if needed.3. Aggressive power wash again.4. Apply liberal coats of black Star using spray bottle and cheap disposable bristle brush.5. Second coat as needed.6. Let dry.7. At this point, you have two options...rustoleum or oil spray. As mentioned above, I went with rustoleum on my undercarriage, followed by lanolin based oil spray. This worked ok, but the rust under the paint did come back....so, yes black star did slow down the process and convert most rust, but it needs to be periodically re-applied, and you can’t do that if there is a film of paint in the way...so I had to power wash again to get the scaling off (a year later). However, I took 3 steps forward and only 1 step back.8. For undercarriages, I would recommend going black star then the lanolin based oil spray route. This also needs to be re-applied, but it gives the appearance of black rustoleum, but the oil acts as a rust dissolver in and of itself and stays moist. EVEN THAT combination of black star and lanolin oil spray must be periodically maintained, but it’s radically reduced the spread of rust.9. Overall still recommend, but it is not a silver bullet...but close, depending on the type of rust you have. It won’t make metal re-appear.

Seems to do exactly what I expected
I used this on some 2" tube steel, about 100 running feet worth. It had sporadic rust (some heavy) so I decided to hit it all with a wire brush in a side grinder. I did this, rinsed with water from a nozzle, and let set until the following weekend. It got rained on a couple days in between, so today it was nice and sunny and I wiped it down with an old T shirt and applied the Converter with a brush. It went quickly, and I took pics before, after I finished, and then several hours later, which I have attached. It feels like a painted surface to the touch, and tomorrow I will spray it all with a self-etching primer. I used about 1 quart on this.Hopefully the rust will be stopped now, and I can cut/weld as needed and when convenient, to build my heavy duty work bench. I will be doing the same process to a bunch of 1.5" angle iron for shelving, and some 3/4" tube steel.
