Very effective alternative to an automatic punch.
These punches make a shallow or deep indent depending upon how far back the spring is pulled. They are great as long as you can perform a two-handed operation.

These work great in tight space.
I seen other reviews saying that the hurt there fingers. All I can say to that is keep your fingers out of the springs. These are great.

Spring chisel

Good for lighter, more precise work; not so good for harder materials.
These work well on soft components, but not so well on harder ones. The punches are excellent for popping rivet centers, and the cold chisel works okay for cutting through rivet heads. I bent the spring on the chisel while removing a rivet, so be careful not to pull back the striker too far. I wanted to use the punches for putting pilot holes on my bumpers for cutting holes for proximity sensors (1/16" steel), but they couldn't punch through. I went with a traditional punch and hammer for that job. They'd work well for punching through sheet metal. The hammer would probably work well for small dents on the vehicle body, but certainly does not work for dents on steel bumpers. In short, these are great tools for lighter, more precise work.
