Cole & MasonDerwent Salt Grinder - Gunmetal Mill Includes Gourmet Precision Mechanism and Premium Sea Salt

I bought these Cole & Mason salt and pepper mills about 2 1/2 years ago. I recently bought a pair of the new Hexclad salt and pepper mills. I thought they would be better than the Cole & Mason mills, but they are not. Although sturdily built of heavy metal, the grinding mechanism of the Hexclad mills is clunky and does not work well. They do not grind smoothly and are jerky and awkward to use. I am sticking with my Cole & Mason Derwent salt & pepper mills. They are plainly superior and produce a clearly smoother result for about half the price of the new Hexclad grinders.

I got this as a replacement for a battery operated grinder that was getting snagged up on pink Himalayan salt rocks. I was frustrated because the battery grinder from Emeril would literally freeze on the pink salt and rendered useless no matter how small/large I made the grind selection or how fresh the batteries were. THIS grinder (based on the reviews) is what pulled me in so I figured I would give it a go. I AM SO GLAD I DID. First, it's super easy to fill the grinder with the coarse chunks of Himalayan pink salt. Second, it's super easy to select the grind size. I went with finest because of my poor experience with the other grinder, and tried it out on my fried eggs. FINE GROUND SALT BLISS!!!! This grinder feels sturdy in your hands, but is not too hard to twist. The salt comes out really well and in a steady amount. I don't have to grind it thirty times to get a nice smattering of salt on my food. I've never actually written a review this long before, because I'm usually just generally pleased with what I purchase, but for whatever reason, after my bad experience with the other grinders, I really felt compelled to sing the praises of this particular grinder. I know it seems crazy to spend $40 on a salt grinder, but it is 100% WORTH EVERY PENNY! You should buy this thing. Seriously.

I've gone through quite a few salt and pepper grinders in the last 20 years or so. Mainly because I keep trying electric grinders that turn on automatically when it is tipped to the side. None of those have lasted more than a few years, and they were the expensive ones. So I've gone back to manual grinders, and this one works great. Perhaps not much better then other grinders in the same price range, but it works exactly as it should, easy to refill and the gunmetal finish looks amazing.

I was sceptical if the product was worth the price, but I am very happy with my purchase. I've bought plenty of other cheaper grinders and they do a good enough job, but they don't offer much adjustment for the coarseness of the grind. You can adjust them, but nothing changes. This grinder has clearly marked corseness levels and you can see and feel the change. I purchased the salt and pepper grinders and couldn't be happier with them!

I don't know what it is about grinders such as this but it's challenging in my experience to find a good quality device, at any cost. This is a good quality grinder, better than average construction however primarily plastic in nature. It has a nice span of grind settings and the appearance of quality.

Very happy with this. The finest grind is really fine. Perfect for salting French fries and things like that. The more coarse grinds are great for cooking. I bought this to accompany the matching pepper mill that I purchased previously. BTW, that is a wonderful pepper mill. Good products. Happy with my purchases.

Im disappointed that this didnt come in it's own box. It was wrapped in bubble wrap, and thrown into an amazon box with another order of mine. No instruction on how to open it at all. Also disappointed that for this price, the designer/s didn't think of putting a cap on it so it doesnt make a mess on the counter.

Its a salt grinder. It grinds salt - well. Looks good too and easy to fill.

We have bought many salt grinders from this company - most of which no longer serve their purpose. This one is far superior to the others and we look forward to many years of using it.

For the cost a product shouldn’t arrive with all its parts not assembled! The salt in the picture came out of the package it was shipped in - I cannot figure out how to assemble it - terrible!

Within six months of purchase, this mill stopped working. It won’t grind salt properly; often twists without grinding. We’ve cleaned it out, adjusted the settings, made sure not salt chunks were jammed - nothing helped. Do not recommend.
