It's claiming more souls than the Titanic.
NOTE: This review is for the larger Pestrax px293 which I purchased throught this listing but one week later the listing has changed to the smaller px model, 2019. Just need to clarify that. Like most folks looking for this type of solution, you want something effective. After being confronted in my own attic by a large male fox squirrel and his harem (2 females), things got personal. I bought a plethoria of gear to try and solve this issue including your traditional steel have a heart trap and creating custom ferrero rocher like treats to bait it with. We're talkin fresh walnuts dipped in peanut butter then tripple dipped in squirrel feed. Ignoring that for a squirrel is like me trying to drive past a Dairy Queen. One day later, the trap was empty of both food and animal. After the trap was picked clean I setup a camera to determine how it was done. Turns out, squirrels are keen. The animal would shake, rattle, and even roll the trap over to get to the food but refused to enter the front door. Guess they've seen those traps before. It even tried to reach through the openings in the cage. After additional determination I made a platform for the rear of the HAH trap and post fastened the walnuts and platform. Two days later, I had a female. However, Now I had to figure out a way to cleanly dispatch it. It's too cold to turn it loose. it'll either die or invade another home. I managed the dispatch, but it didn't feel right. I like animals. But I don't like house fires. They shred wire insulation and had to go but I needed a better solution. Also, the bait platform would need refurbished after every dispatch. That's when I turned to this device. Setup was super easy. Place the bait, snap it shut, and plug it in. I let the remote LED dangle from the access panel to the attic. I can't tell you enough how nice it is to have that feature! The trap will buzz repeatedly when there is a kill, but it's hard to hear up in the attic. The LED is a great feature. Albeit, the length of cord is approx 24" so buy a 3.5mm male to female mono extension cable if you need more. I left my trap near enough to the panel for 24" to do the job. The very next morning, at squirrel breakfast, I got the male. Dead as a doornail. After removal, a quick wipe down and rebait, the trap was back into position. The day after? Got the 2nd female. Now this is what i'm talking about! It's currently back up there awaiting the small mouse I caught on camera as well. This sucker is super effective. The kill doesn't get any cleaner for a device you don't have to babysit. I was surprised a large squirrel would fit in it as you'll see in the photos. But with the right bait, it'll find a way in there! A few tips for the squirrels: 1) Place something on top the trap. The will shake, rattle, and roll this thing. They will even attack it from the back. Protect the wires and hold it down. God gave these creatures teeth and a ton of patience. 2) Place plenty of tasty bait in the little recess for bait. Squirrels have thick coats and they might get in and out a few times before the plates make good enough contact for the jolt. My male actually sat there and snacked a while before his greed got the best of him. 3) They got in somehow. Make sure you check your eves and soffit for holes that will need patched. If you live in a seasonal area, fall is the time to inspect for these things and deploy the trap. Saved me a FORTUNE compared to a one time visit from an exterminator! I'm a total believer now!

Works Great. Never stops to amaze me
This item is expensive but worth every penny. I bought it and set it up and in 2 days nothing. I was so upset and requested a return ticket from amazon but just the day I had planned returning it, I heard it beeping, checked and there was a mouse. After that , it cought like 3 more same day. Had such a bad infestation. Never stopped. After, I followed what some reviews suggested that its good to clean it after few use. I cleaned it with windex like 3 different occasions but after the last one, it stopped working. It was just beeping on its own. I was so upset as by then my return period had expired. I tried wiping it but every time I plug it, it would zap like something inside but nothing. Continued to do that and I was like what a waste but then I noticed every time that happened, I would see liquid kind like water. Anyway I figured the machine must have become wet underneath the plates. I decided to shake it out tried all ways drying it and after a day, I put it back on to see what would happen but it was not making the noise. Afterward it cought another and another and have not stopped. Its so good as it made me so motivated in eliminating mice problem once and for all in my house. I pest proofed my house outside in all ways but when the little mice found a way to get inside, I knew as this machine is always prepared waiting. What a great tool. It made me hate the glue traps that I usually put behind the couch but if something falls, then it gets stuck and ruined. I had given up twice but now I'm the best fan of the zapper. You have to be patient with it and maintain it well. Now I usually almost dry wipe it after several mices. Don't know why but from what I read from review that the mice don't get in after several use but I just do it and it works great. Another thing I like is I don't have to hear a crying mouse all day after its been caught by a glue stick trap as I'm waiting to get a chance to move furniture and get to it. The crying mice always scares me and somehow inhumane in my opinion. The zapper you dont have to deal withhe the sound of mice. This machine is clean, you just damp the mice in the trash without the scary part. This is so great. Love it. Its expensive but I have used a lot of money with glue traps and it was tough with a serious infestation as you are always buying and in the long run you spend a lot more. I'm just happy nowadays to see it and knowing its ready and not seeing mice running from one corner to the other. Helped me get my house back that the mice had taken hold by moving in and starting to get comfortable. Buy it, you will not regret it.

Disappointed with this unit
I have been using an old trap similar to this one for 8 years when it finally gave its last humane shocking end to my squirrel population. My old trap was very simple with activation by the assembly of the top and bottom halves. No on/off switch or beeping or flashing light. It was also listed as "weatherproof". this unit with lights and beepers was not weatherproof so I made sure it was taken in at night and was not out exposed to the weather. I have only had this for a few weeks and had not caught anything nor has the bait been taken. Today was the day for triumph! A squirrel decided to taste a pecan in the bait tray in the trap. After much thrashing about for a long time, the beeper sounded and the "caught something light" came on. The squirrel was no longer active. Went to get my gloves and a sack to collect the varmint. Went to the trap and the trap was empty except for the pecan. Either the maker of this trap has been able to provide transport of the squirrel to another dimension or the squirrel was not humanely euthanized. Hope this episode with the trap has not given the varmint superpowers. The trap was clean and had fresh batteries and based on past experiences with this type of trap it should have dispatched the critter. All indicators were showing this trap as working. I would like to return this since it is not doing what it should, however, I guess I may be out of luck since I threw out the box it came in.
