Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves!
I read this book a long time ago in paperback, and, as Shaun Hutson tends to favour male protagonists in his books, it was a refreshing change to have a female take the lead. Donna Ward aided and abetted by her sister, becomes involved in a bizarre quest after her author husband dies in a car crash, along with his secretary, and Donna thinks he was having an affair with her, which later turns out not to be the case at all. His infiltration of a branch of The Hellfire Club for his latest writing project makes Donna a target, as he has stolen a Grimoire, a book that contains vital knowledge to the club, like their bible, and hidden it. He leaves Donna instructions on where to find it, so that she can destroy it. But it's not as simple as that when you have those guys on your tail! And they have members everywhere! Who will stop at nothing to get it! It's a departure from Shaun Hutson's usual gorefest, but I loved it! The denouement is rather thrilling, and Donna learns an unpleasant truth about her deceased husband. It's so good, it should be made into a film! And, you may never want to enter Madame Tussauds after reading it! Really good, if a little bit creepy!

My First Shaun Hutson
This was the first Shawn Hutson novel I have read, it was lent to me as a holiday read and I finished it within 3 days. The book follows Donna Ward, a widow after her husband Chris dies in a car accident. As the book continues Donna realises she didn't know her husband as well as she thought she did and there are lots of questions that she wants to find the answers to. It is a compelling book and leaves you constantly want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens next.I really enjoyed this book although in places it was very gory. I am told that this is one of Hutson's more milder books so whether I would like to read a gorier one, I am at the moment undecided. The plot was predictable in places and I had guessed what was going to happen quite early on in the novel. Nevertheless it was a very interesting and compelling read and I would recommend it!

The Hellfire Club - English blue-bloods and their rituals
I enjoy reading Shaun Hutson's books. This one had a lot of suspense, thrills...kept me engrossed during many of the chapters dealing with the women's defiance towards The Sons of Midnight. Donna and Julie's sense of self-preservation was inspiring. I wish that Shaun would have spent more time providing additional historical information on The Hellfire Club, Francis Dashwood and members. Shaun did come up with a good/interesting ending to the story...one that we could read on some of the tabloids and newspapers of today. Am reading his book "Victims" now...and already I am hooked.
