Great budget tablet
This is Samsung's newest iteration of their budget tablet line, and it worked well for my needs, and I used it for a couple weeks before returning it because I realized I wanted stylus support. When I bought this, I just wanted a tablet to occasionally type brief notes on, watch movies, play an occasional game. I was worried from other reviews that the tablet's screen would be too blue hued, but actually to me this was not noticeable. Blacks and other colors were represented well, but certainly not in an impressive way like the top of the line Galaxy S8 tablets. The colors are slightly duller than my OLED screen on my phone, the s22 ultra, but if I do not have them side by side it is not noticeable, and again, for the price content is portrayed beautifully Remember that this tablet has 4 speakers whereas a comparable base iPad has 2 speakers and only on one side. So this tablet gives a much better sound environment. If you buy this, turn on Dolby Atmos sound, because for some reason it is not on by default, and it will make videos and movies sound way better, a world apart. Anyway, I was worried the animations would be sluggish because of the lower price but this is not the case, and in fact I dont remember any stuttering. Games are more fun on this than my phone simply because the screen is bigger. However, remember that I am a casual gamer, not looking for the highest resolutions or expensive screens. The thinness and the silver color together made my tablet feel very premium, and it always felt sturdy and like its not made of cheap plastic. An iPad air is noticeably thicker and is not as wide in landscape mode, so videos dont fit as well. I loved how well it did everything, even splitting the screen to multitask with no hassle, and with LTE it was the best budget tablet I have tried (always get LTE on tablets, you never know when you might need cellular service). The battery life is so good! It lasted me two days or a little more, being used only in the afternoons after work, with a mix of mostly watching youtube videos or occasional gaming, and browsing the web.For the cons, note that the base iPad has better battery life than this, but may cost around $200 more after adding LTE and increasing its storage (whereas this cSams7ng an use any cheap SD card to add storage). The trade off is that iPad storage is integrated and not on a separate card, so its faster for loading apps and running them than an SD card. But SD cards are good for permanent storage like photos and movies. Also, please note that base iPads have better battery life than some iPad Pros, so its not to say that this Samsung A8 has bad battery life, just less than the crazy long lasting base iPad. Anyway if you wanted to move up from the base iPad, to an iPad Air, you would get better sounding speakers than this Samsung, with more bass and balance, but again that difference may not be worth it, especially when you can simply use headphones with this Samsung tablet's audio jack and bluetooth capabilities. One BIG drawback of this tablet, unfortunately, is that there are far fewer accesories from third parties. Logitech for example, sells a wonderful backlit keyboard for the base iPad, with a trackpad included! But for android tablets, it sells a flimsy plastic case that has a non backlit keyboard, with no trackpad, and it has a "universal fit" that looks a world apart (worse) from the iPad keyboard from the same company. . Another point users make against Android is the lack of smooth functioning, useful apps like Apple has. This can be true if you come from an iPad that has GarageBand, or premium video/photo editing apps, but I had bought this tablet to be able to sync to Samsung notes on my phone and this tablet offers native support for many google/samsung apps, so the difference was not so dramatic for me. If you want to edit photos with color accuracy and professional editing in mind, get a higher end tablet. That being said, my biggest gripe with this tablet is that it doesnt have any compatibility with a stylus. Samsung.... why!?!?!.The iPad becomes a better value than this tablet for anyone wanting to take notes in class and the general user who writes on tablets (a main reason for having a tablet sized screen is to wriite on it!!!). Then when you consider that the iPad accesories offered by Logitech are low priced for their value, and the iPad apps are more polished and premium, even if its for specific users and not the general rule, it is easy to justify spending a little more in order to get a much better package. So here is my conclusion, and why this still deserves five stars. If you want a tablet that does everything, like have a very very long battery life and hand drawing/writing abilities, and world renowned apps, and an army of third party sellers with great products, get an iPad. If spending a couple hundred dollars or more for those advantages does not sound justifiable to you, then this is the best option. This Samsung gives you a brand new processor, and when paired with 4gb of ram for the 64gb storage model like mine had, it is well equipped to play your videos and type out a few notes and multitask without feeling cheap or unresponsive. So its a great value for its price, so it gets five stars. That being said, you can probably use a non active stylus with this Samsung and I saw a youtuber try that and it worked for her, but I personally dont like that method.
