Arrived Early!! Just as pictured.
I like that it arrived earlier than expected. Product is just as pictured. Seems very interesting. Have to finish my other book before I can really dive in.

Not actually gory, but gross, disgusting, and perhaps a bit nauseating.
If you’re a nonfiction reader who wants to read weird science topics, this is for you—that is, if you’re not squeamish and can tolerate some disgusting facts. Disclosure: My background is medically-related and includes gore. For me, this was an interesting and easy-listen for driving, because each chapter introduces a new topic. It’s like reading a column in a monthly pop-science magazine, which is author Erika Engelhaupt’s forte. The section titled “Morbid Curiosity” includes a morgue visit, dead humans, and miniature crime scenes. “That’s Disgusting” includes maggots, disease odors, and detritus of the dead. “Breaking Taboos” has the usual no-noes, plus menstruation and info about the CLITORUS. Then there’s “Creepy Crawlies” and “Gross Anatomy”—human anatomy. I docked a star because the psychosocial section titled “Mysterious Minds” needs more . . . fleshing out.I recommend the audiobook narrated by Mari Weiss, who does a stellar reading.

Mary Roach but BETTER! Hilarious, Gross, Creepy REAL SCIENCE
Amazing book! If you liked Mary Roach, you’ll LOVE this! This engrossing book illuminates the gross, strange, morbid, and outright absurd realities of our bodies, our earth, and our universe. Not for everyone, but if you’re into fascinating real science including creepy crawlers, transplants, bodily fluids, rats etc. you will truly enjoy this book. I read it in one sitting. If you’re a curious lover of nature and biology READ THIS BOOK.

Quite interesting
Ok, some parts of this book are off-putting. I skipped most of the chapter on roaches. But it's a very well written book and it covers some topics you may never have thought about. It kept me engaged and I learned quite a few things.

3 1/2 stars
I love science writing and I did find this book pretty intriguing. I did learn a lot, in spite of having read several other similar books. The writing is clear and very humorous at times. Engelhaupt explains things very well for us lay people. The book seems to be well researched as well. I did find that some of the chapters weren’t really about gory subjects, but they were still interesting, such as psychopathy and misophonia.Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes learning unusual things about some “uncomfortable” topics! 🤪

Fun way to “gross” science lessons!
This book was a fun, fast read broken up into easy chapters about various topics such as insects, why certain things gross us out, even a section about eye worms. Written in a funny and down to earth way that was fun to learn about all sorts of topics. Definitely recommend!

I’m Obsessed with this one!
I haven’t been entertained by a book this much in a while. Use your common sense. It’s gonna have some gross (but factual and interesting) stuff. So if that bothers you, buy something else. But if you’re fascinated by the weird, dark, taboo, gross, and the sometimes biologically icky truth of the world. You need this.*Ladies, there’s a whole section on the clitoris. Just saying.
