fun to play
You do not have to grind to lv 100 right away. Use a tower and cheat shop level up that way.

The best version and not just for the DLC.
Disgaea as a series is one that you can take your time and enjoy the story which is always light hearted with funny writing and amusing characters. The gameplay is a turn based strat RPG and as usual with more mechanics than the previous version, but what makes this different from the likes of Disgaea 3 is the added mechanics don't slow down or make battles more tedious. They build on the gameplay of D2, some things make battles more difficult like geo stones but some things limited to item world such as item fish, level spheres and other items like that can help make leveling items easier than before.Maps now have their own quirks, one has water that's tainted with poison that upon entering will poison a character, another map has mushrooms that spawn that when thrown have a area of effect that alters your characters.Character leveling is also streamlined, you can hire new characters and pay (in game) money to not only choose how good they are but you can also buy levels! You can also really choose how a character grows with Evilties which can buff stats or give bonus abilities to characters, if that isn't enough? You can choose how to level certain moves by buying enhancements.Right, you hire characters and there's a lot of classes, more since the last game I played (I played D1,2,3,D2 and D5:Complete).This sounds like a lot if you're new to RPGs, but the game is very simple if you stick to just story mode and the game does a good job at introducing you to mechanics. But if you want deep....well you can level characters to 9,999, eventually do millions or billions worth of damage per hit, throw exploding penguins (dood) or go into an item and battle through hundreds of floors as they get more and more difficult and the item gets more and more strong. Why this version is the best one to get:The game comes with all the DLC of the PS4 version and possibly more (I can't say for sure with this I haven't played the PS4 version). If you are looking to play this game though the DLC isn't the only reason to get this one. Disgaea is a game made to be played portable, I had the most fun with the games on PSP and it's the same on the Switch. Battles can take a while, especially in item world so standby mode works great in allowing you to drop in and out of the game as you please and with it portable you can play it in bed or whatever. It makes the game easier to push through if you're trying to dive deeper into the game.If you have the PS4 version already and you played that a lot, this doesn't have enough extra to warrant you buying again. But if you didn't get too far and you'd like to see more of the game ...I say disgaea portable is the only way to do it.How it runs:It runs really well on the swtich, the only issue I've seen is some slowdown when I passed a bill at the senate that filled the hub world with probably 100+ characters. It wasn't constant and it only cropped up for a bit. Otherwise it runs great in portable or docked mode and is solid. If you're new to the series, I don't think you're missing much by starting here. Disgaea 1 is a fine game with a good story but has many flawed mechanics that make the game harder to play, 2 refined it, 3 tripped and D2 and now 5 pulled it back and made the series great.

Good RPG Game
I actually imported the Japanese one due to already having English Subs, similar to I am setsuna which is another fun game that's in the Japanese RPG genre so I would recommend checking that one out as well.I won't go too much in the story since this is the fifth game in the series, however if you are one that's on the fence about whether or not that the series is for you then I'll answer that. If you are into Fire Emblem or any sort of Japanese RPG games then I would recommend this one as well. If you're looking for a game that you want to put in a lot of hours to then I would recommend this one as well because this one has many hours and endless scenarios that you can engage yourself in in this game. Plus the best part is you can take it anywhere, go anywhere, play it anywhere on the Nintendo switch. Now answer the other question is if you need to have play the other games to understand this one. The answer is no. So you can engage yourself into playing this game and I believe this is a prequel. So that's a good start for you in the series. And if you haven't played the one on PS4 then again I would recommend this one as well. But just in case you're wondering about the storyline it's pretty simplistic. It's basically about the main character who teams up with another character in the series so I won't mention any names who try to take down the antagonist of the series called Lord dark. This game is also single player so don't expect any Secret of Mana or Co op as this is only available in single player mode. This a strategy RPG game. Might be stating the obvious but I figured I will least let you know. This game also support Pro Controller the joy Con's as well so keep that in mind. From when I played of it also that my only gripe about this is that there is no Auto Battle which I loved in the Fire Emblem series were basically if I wanted to grind my characters to level them up faster I would just put them in Auto and they can fight while I did something else so to me that is the downside to this game.Keep in mind I will not recommend this for kids as this is for teens so bear that in mind. There are some suggestive images in there but nothing too have to cover your eyes with or mature rated features. But in all it's a very fun game. It has some fun characters. A very anime vibe to it so if you're into anime then that's a plus for you. There's also a lot of humorous scenarios in here which I can't help but laugh when it comes to this series.

This is so much fun on a portable system!
So although I already own D5 on my PS4 I'm unable to play it very much due to my RAMBUNCIOUS 2 year old jumping off the walls haha. On a whim I decided to grab the Switch version and am very glad I did. Disgea as a whole lends itself very well to a handheld- It just has that certain "pick up and play for an hour" feel to it. Especially considering the infamous Item World, where you'll easily spend almost 90% of the game grinding your gear up to ridiculous levels. The "Complete" part of the title is exactly that: In your pocket netherworld hub there's a DLC Prinny you can talk to and he'll give you many different items / money / and even special characters to use for free right away. Some of the characters are REALLY powerful too. I have a starter team for example that has Disgea 1's Laharl and Etna and couldn't be happier. That prinny will even give you 1 million HL (money) to equip all your units out right.Best of all, since I play on a Switch Lite I can actually READ all the texts clearly (looking at you, Fire Emblem Three Houses.. Mrgrgrgrrgrr..)

A fanstastic entry in the Disgaea series and a perfect jumping in point for people new to it
Has everything you expect from Disgaea, great visuals and sound over top of an absolutely endless amount of content. Battle enemies in over the top strategy battles with near infinite customization. Go into your items to make them stronger, go into your characters to make them stronger, quite literally change the mechanics of the game to better suit your playstyle. Has every possible quality of life improvement the series could have, if you want to do it, there is some way to do it that is fun and easy to understand. Build the team of your dreams, equip and power them up however you see fit then go delve deep into impossibly stronger bad guys.

Great game, tons to do and love the characters.
Loves Disgaea series, there are so much to do in the game and replay value is really high. In item world stages however, if Switch goes on sleep mode, some time later the game will freeze and you'll have to restart from where you last saved. As of June, there are no patches or fixes, you'll just have to run through item world and pause at the break area and thus the 3 stars. Will change rating when NIS patches the freezing problem.Edit: Looks like they finally fixed the item world problem and can go into sleep mode while in it without the game crashing. 5 Stars!

great game
If you've never played disgaea before, you don't have to worry. I've only ever played disgaea on ds and still enjoyed the game. Can last over 100+ hours of game play and a lot of thing to do after you finish the story. This game also has small side story that brings you back to the old games which i love. If you love tactic games such as fire emblem, then you will definitely love this game

Combination of Comedy and Tactical RPG
The game is great but I would advice against playing the game with the DLC. The game becomes really easy and confusing if you decide to unlockall the DLCs from the beginning. My first round was actually a stage from the DLC and they did not show instructions. (Where they would if you played accordingly)Other than that, if you like a sandboxy tactical RPG, then this is for you.
