Hnefatafl, the Viking game! The game has been known in Northern Europe since the older Iron Age. The Swedish botanist Carl von Linne learned to know the game in Lapland for 1730 under the name "Tablut" and described it in detail. The game simulates the attack on a castle where the king is located. If the attackers succeed in taking them caught they have won. But if the king manages to escape from the castle and get into safety, the king and his defenders are the winners. Hnefatafl is an "asymmetric board game". This means that the opponents have a different number of game figures, different starting positions and different winning situations. The game consists of: - 1 game plane - 1 black royal stone - 12 defenders and 24 attackers stones. One player plays the side of the king, he receives a "king" (black) and 12 "defenders". The other player gets 24 stones of the other colour, the "attacker". Goal of the game: For the side of the king, the goal is to move the king to one of the four black marked corner fields. In this case, the king has escaped and his side wins. The attackers win when they can catch the king before he escapes.
