You need to own this cookbook!!
I've now made four of your recipes so far and my family has loved them all, for the first time in my married life I feel like I'm giving them quality food your recipes are so easy to follow and delicious! I work full-time and have two children and I can say that this cookbook is worth the time. The recipes do not contain processed ingredients so you feel really good about what you're making for your family. I probably spend no more than 15 minutes in the morning preparing what needs to go in the crockpot, when you don't use processed ingredients it's going to take a little bit more time and it's worth it! Highly recommend!

Good recipes, but lots of canned tomatoes
We are trying to get away from processed foods, but don't have time to prepare elaborate meals from scratch. I thought this would be a good option to get us eating "real food" again. The majority are really good and are not too difficult to prepare. My only problem is that many of the recipes call for canned tomatoes. If the goal is to use all fresh ingredients, why rely so heavily on canned and preserved tomatoes when you can use fresh diced tomatoes? Easy to substitute, but have to guesstimate spices if it calls for seasoned, canned tomatoes. At any rate, still a good cookbook! Recently tried the Chicken Parm Soup and it was a definite winner!

Recipes are way over seasoned
Just in case you are thinking that we eat bland food, we eat spicy wings and hot salsa on the regular. The recipes in this book use too much seasoning. First, most recipes requires "house seasoning" as an ingredient. So you make that. Recipe is in the book. no biggie, but let me warn you. It's half salt, so don't think the recipes are low sodium. Or, just skip that for low sodium dishes. When i say the food has way too much seasoning, let me give you an example Beef and barley stew. Serves 4 to 6. Some of the ingredients include, 5 cloves of garlic, 2 Tbsp of house seasoning, 1 tsp dry time, 1/2 tsp dry oregano, 2 bay leaves, 1/2 tsp rosemary. plus a bunch of other stuff that has strong flavors like vinegar and , Worcestershire shire sauce. First time we made it - it was basically inedible. We ended up tossing it. Why would you want to eat nothing but mouthfuls of herbs? Second time around. halved the herb amounts and still not that great. Not sure we want to give it a third try.The other recipes we tried:potato soup with ham. This was actually our favorite recipe we tried. The ham, chicken broth and cheese add enough salt, I would leave the house seasoning out.chicken stroganoff. Our second favorite we tried. Again, we felt this dish was way over seasoned. If/when we make it again we will cut down on all the spices by half.chicken and dumplings. at 6 servings, again, WHY do you need 3 bay leaves in there?Oh, my husband said this is not a true crock pot book, in his opinion. He feels a crock pot should be, put the stuff in, don't touch it for 6-8 hours. Then serve. These recipes are not like that. You have multiple steps during the cooking process, but I didn't find them over complicated. So remember this too. This is not dump and serve. You will have to devote some time to prep here.

I love this cookbook
I love this cookbook! Samantha has included a detailed introduction with invaluable information about seasonings, cooking times and the particular cuts of meat to use. I have made three of her recipes and all have turned out to be yummy and easy to make. I have already purchased more books to give as gifts. If you are tired of slowcooker recipes that include cans of soup and end up with over-cooked meat, you will love this new approach to slowcooking.

Great source for simple recipes skipping the processed ingredients
With the availability of recipes on the internet I don't usually buy cookbooks, but I believe this one is worth it. Most slow-cooker recipes end up calling for cream-of-whatever soup or other processed ingredients including who knows what. It's nice having a collection of recipes that are simple and tasty and turn out well as written with no adjustments. At this point I've only made a few of the recipes, but so far they've been great and I'm looking forward to trying the rest.

Very Poorly Indexed Cookbook
Pretty disappointed with the very lazy index. Slow Cooker cooking is about convenience, and while I've enjoyed the recipes I've made thus far, I find the index most inconvenient. I recalled coming across a Sweet Potato and Black Bean dish and tried to locate it again by using the index. Neither Sweet Potato nor Black Beans were indexed. And then I attempted to get a quick glance at the recipes indexed under 'Carrots' and found just page numbers listed, not recipes. So I had to flip to each page number to find out what recipe it was. Certainly not the author's fault, but the publisher should put forth more effort towards indexing to create a truly useful cookbook that one doesn't have to browse constantly to use.

Handy recipe book. I love finding stuff to make that uses a slow cooker!
Great recipe book especially for a fairly beginner level cook. I've tried 2 recipes so far and they've both turned out great! I look forward to trying new recipes! The ones I've tried do require a bit of prep work but I'd say it's worth it for the food you get out of the deal.
