I am a ranch hand in Western Montana and am a woman on the older end of life that gets cold easily. I am impressed by several things about this fantastic jacket. The fabric is amazingly tough! I've caught it accidentally on sharp wire tips on fencing and there's no snag anywhere. I handle scratchy stiff hay a lot and there are no scuff marks. I work it hard and it takes it all! I train timid animals and the fabric isn't scratchy sounding so it doesn't make noises to scare them like many windproof jackets do. There is a wind flap inside the zipper that is over an inch wide and never catches on the zipper. The outside zippered chest pockets are roomy enough for my oversized cell phone with it's big case and they are easy to access quickly. There are 2 lower pockets on each side - a very roomy open slanted one for fully covered hands and easy access for extra supplies, and another very roomy one with a flap over it to protect what's inside. This has helped me keep snow and hay out of things that need to stay clean and dry when I'm working with snowy messy things. There is also one roomy chest pocket on the inside that has a short velcro closer. The zipper is high quality so no fighting it and it's covered with a flap that is snapped closed if you want. There is a flap of fabric over the top of the zipper so it doesn't irritate the skin rather partially or fully zipped. The hood is insulated, has a brim to shield the sun and precipitation, is roomy enough to go over a snow hat easily and has a drawstring to close off wind when needed. The jacket also has a waist drawstring for folks that like those. I am outside all day everyday and this jacket has served me well in hard winds, heavy blowing snow and I have been comfortable in it in 20*F all the way down to a "real feel" temperature of -65* this winter. I haven't used it in heavy rain yet but I have been in wet sleet with no problems. I absolutely LOVE this jacket and highly recommend it. My only hesitation when I first tried it on was that it felt like the shoulders were a bit narrow. However, it's an absolute non-issue under use, and I wear layers under it when it gets sub-zero. I love Carhartt but I think this is their top product.

I bought this to replace my 20 y/o LLBean barn coat - a tough act to follow. While it differs from the barn coat in style, it measures up in quality and warmth. The jacket is beautifully constructed of waterproof materials, and doesn't feel excessively heavy or bulky despite its more-than-adequate warmth in below-freezing weather. I've worn it in heavy sleet, and stayed completely dry between my neck and knees. It has a hood that can be pulled loosely over headwear, that has a drawstring for a closer fit. There are several very roomy pockets, some with Velcro closures.Hands down, it's the most comfortable heavy-duty winter coat I've ever owned. The only "drawback" is that this jacket doesn't have a removable insulated liner like my Bean barncoat...but that's an acceptable tradeoff in a garment of this quality and style.*I feel I should mention that the "Elm" color is darker and a little more blue-ish than it appears in the posting photographs. I find it attractive, but someone expecting more of an "army green" may not.

It was time for me to get a new winter coat. Mine was old and I’m getting old too, so the cold bothers me more than it used to. I did a lotttt of research on winter jackets to find one that was going to keep me warm in frigid Michigan temps without making me look like the kid in A Christmas Story that couldn’t move his arms. This jacket IS IT! It has sooo many nice features that I thought were nice when I read the descriptions, but have discovered that they make a massive difference. Like the zippers on the bottom sides of the jacket. I zip those babies closed when I’m out and about and unzip them if I’m sitting down/driving/or just don’t need the extra insulation. I was gifted generous hips and thighs from my mother’s side of the family and they usually cause jackets, dresses, long sweaters, etc., to just not fit right. Having the zippers there to give me a little extra space is a game changer. And the hood! It’s like it’s weighted a bit on the crown of it so that when you have it on, the wind isn’t going to just blow it right off. And as a woman, I greatly appreciate the generously sized pockets! And the fact that there’s more than two is a double bonus. It’s extremely evident that actual thought was put into the design of this jacket and I’m so grateful. It is a heavy jacket, that’s to be sure. But I am glad for it because it keeps me warm! Now I just need matching pants to keep my legs as warm too! I’m 5’6”, 210-215lbs depending on how much pumpkin pie I’ve eaten around the holidays, and I got a 2X to be on the safe side and because I want to be able to wear sweatshirts under my jacket, too. I probably could’ve still gotten and XL and been just fine, but at least I know if I put on some additional hibernation weight, I won’t have an issue.

I bought this coat for my mom. It is great forcold Michigan winter weather. Great quality and looks nice.

Great coat carhart never disappoints I’m 5’8 #200 with big shoulders I ordered both the xxl and xl and went with the xl. The xxl was very big in the chest and waist. I cld get away with either size by opted for the xl…. It’s was a tough decision. Well made and nice length in the back and butt. Pockets are good and zippers work well. I would recommend

I saw the Amazon delivery and grabbed the coat to try on. Put it on and noticed dirt on the hood. Removed to find dirt and animal hair all over it! I certainly wasn't going to re-order a new one after this! Come on, Amazon, I would think you could do a little better. Now I have to truck this filthy thing over to Kohls to return! The coat is pretty nice. Sizing a little weird. Close fiting body but sleeves are too long. I would have kept it were it clean. Doubt I will order clothing from Amazon again.

Carhartt never lets me down. I by all means am not in the labour industry but I know Quality when I see it and test it and this jackets the same as carhartt products in durability, function and warmth. I have many carharrt products as I want items that last and won’t wear out on me.It’s deceptively thin, I was worried but trusted the 4 (warmest) rating that carhartt proudly claimed this coat was. It’s warm and durable as hell. It’s water proof and wind proof, when it was -15 I felt some cold but only when I was walking my dog, the wind chill was -25. Normal winter wether it’s good to go.It warm and covers my bum which I love. I’m so happy with this coat, I can wear it with leggings or overalls or whatever and I have full mobility and not restricted at all. I hate when I can’t move my arms.Today it was raining and wet and cold and I was so comfortable in this coat.

My husband was pushing me to buy a jacket from Carhartt as his favorite jacket of all time is from this brand. And now I understand. It is a bit heavy but be sure it will always keep you warm and isolated. Functional for daily bike tours. Love it. Just a bit big even the XS, but I’m small.

This is a well made coat. The materials used look tough enough for work clothes and the mobility is great. The pockets are all perfectly placed and the side zipper is helpful when you crouch, kneel sit in the driver’s seat or sit on a horse.Unfortunately it’s not very warm and falsely advertised Carhartt rated this 4-extreme warmth, “ for the coldest conditions on earth”. The insulation keeps in a great amount of warmth with very little bulk but it is simply too thin.I wanted a coat that will keep me warm working outdoors all day at -15C. I tested it at 0 to -5C and just managed to stay warm for the few minutes I wore it. At -10 or -15C I’d be in serious trouble. So as much as I like everything else about the coat, for Alberta winters it’s useless.The size chart is accurate, but if you’re planning on layering you definitely need to go a size up.
