Progress and rewards
This book is all about progress and providing a reward every step of the way. It begins with illustrations for sound recognition. For example: "A" for apple (letter in print and picture of an apple beside the letter). Then, we progress to more illustrations for each letter. For example: "N" for net, nose, and needle. Each pg. has a place in the upper right-hand corner for your child to place a sticker of a star when he or she successfully recognizes a letter. There are matching games & a few stories including highlighted alphabets. Finally, at the end of the book is an "I DID IT" certificate & a pullout poster road map so you can proudly display your child's success. It's only stickers, but you will be surprised at how much your child will want to acquire another star for his or her map.

I am using this with my 18 month old. she loves the video with the music and the animation. She is already recognizing some letters and the sounds that they make. Yesterday during her bath I handed her a bath tub toy and said "fish" she actually made the "F" sound!! of course she is not old enough yet to use the work book, but I do read her the books that came along with this set.

Horrible layout
This book is awful. You would think that an alphabet / letter sounds book would have the letters IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER, but this book starts with the letter "m". They go on until "p", (skipping "o") and then decide to start working on "b", skipping every vowel until "L". At this point, they finally give the vowels in this order: A, I, O, U, E.Also, when it comes to a 3 year old learning letter sounds for the first time, they need to be taught the sound and then given a task to identify a word BEGINNING with that sound. They instead ask the child to identify words with that particular sound in the beginning, middle or end of a word. I anticipate this book being very confusing for a preschooler who is unfamiliar with letter sounds.I am keeping this book mainly because it will cost me more to send it back than it did to buy it. My 3 year old will be able to do it only because she is already very familiar with letter sounds. I would not recommend this book at all, especially for a true beginner.

this workbook would be great if the one i had received actually contained all the letters of the alphabet. The work book i have starts at M. At this point in time i'm not sure if there is a separate volume for the beginning of the alphabet, but there is no indication of that anywhere on the work book. Did anyone else have that problem? Know where i can get the other half of the abc's??????

Good Workbooks
I have a few of the Hooked on Phonics workbooks and I like them. I use these with a few other games and the starfall.com website. I like that there are stickers that you can put on the pages when your child has finished the different sections.

My son is really enjoying this workbook. I like that it doesn't goin alphabetical order so that they are really learning letters and their sounds not just guessing and memorizing.

Like the concept the book uses to teach letter sounds
This book is worth buying for the method it uses to teach letter sounds. You will be using this method beyond the use of this book. I also recommend reading adventures Winnie the pooh pre level 1 set. Please read to your children, it is the single most important skill for academic success.

Compliments from the Kindergarten teacher
I used this book on a casual basis with my son when he was 4 & 5. He enjoyed the simple layout and the colors. I enjoyed the ease of use. As I said, we used this book casually (once a week), but when we did he was eager to learn the sounds that each letter make. When he entered kindergarten he did not know his entire alphabet or the names of letters; HOWEVER, he did know much of the phonetics of the letters (the sound they make). This was very helpful when reading was introduced.

早速!!
最近、フォニックスを覚えはじめるようになった6歳の娘は、商品到着後、早速、ワークブックを開いて、問題を解いていました。カラーで見やすいし、1項目、終わる度にステッカーを貼れるのがやる気をましたと思います。
