Great summer beach reading.
Could not put it down...read it in two days at the the Jersey shore. As you read this you actually can see the people and places in your reading imagination...also as you figure out the gentle mysteries you actually act shocked just like the characters in the story..a very good well written summer book. Would love a sequel to see where the characters go from here...

Predictable but fun
Very predictable, but a good choice for a rainy weekend day. Easy to pick up and put down, if a little basic.

Keenly Observed Social Satire Hits the Mark
With a sly smile, "It Happens in the Hamptons' puts you right on Main Street, and gives you just as clear a view from your orange Porsche as it does from that beat-up old Volvo wagon we all drove at some point. Surprisingly funny and relatable, Peterson throws in details that bring you behind the privets (cantaloupe mojito, anyone?) and down to the docks, into the intrigue that weaves the locals together with the summering set.Like all great satire, the author isn't taking herself too seriously---there's a hint of glee in the absurdity of assuming it just isn't a party without a Beluga bar, and that only Hermes beach towels will do. But there's no patronizing everyone else either. Through the eyes of a very believable Katie, whose journey we join, we see with equal clarity both sides of the tracks, as a clever plot keeps the pages turning.Bottom line: if you are going on vacation, bring this book.If you feel like you need a vacation, read this book.Either way, it's a blast.

Dull and predictable
The main characters are shallow and boring. Reads like a bad Lifetime movie. Writing is juvenile and plot is full of holes. Peterson tells the price and name brand of every expensive piece of clothing and food that is worn or eaten by the uppercrust in the Hamptons. Who cares about how much a sandwich and bag of chips cost? I was hoping for an Elin Hilderbrand type-beach read novel. Don't waste your time and money. I need to read more of the reviews before purchasing as the last three books I purchased have been disappointing.

What IS this?
I bought this thinking it would be a delightful, easy beach read. Now I wonder if I bought the wrong book by mistake. This is garbage. For one, the author needs to learn basic grammar and structure. I couldn't read some of it simply because it was poorly written. What editor lets something like that be published? Also-I'm so glad that Peterson can look up the prices of cars and swim trunks on the Internet. So can I. If I want to know that a car costs $161,070 I will go look it up. I don't need a running price list in the book I'm reading. It's distracting and boring not to mention juvenile. I understand she is trying to show the differing lifestyles in the Hamptons but chose a very immature method of doing so.Also-pick a story line and lose the sex. It seems as though this book was written with multiple personalities and when the author got stuck for detail or maybe wanted to draw things out she would throw in sex which I consider to be as immature as dropping internet prices every third page. The whole thing is poorly written, distracted, and sad.

Easy summer read
A beach read set in the summer in the Hamptons. A quick read. Not the most in depth story and chapters were short.

Familiar territory
The pArt of this book that interested me more than the story line, was the Hamptons.. I live on Long Island and have visited there many times. I could see many of the places mentioned here. Descriptions are quite good. The story line did keep me turning pages though.

Holly Nails Hampton Life stories To A Tee
Having grown up in the Hamptons during the 60s and 70s, I can attest, that had Holly written her book back then, the characterizations of the places and people would not mesh. She has developed a remarkable modern day true, but fictional story of what really does take place. Being a "townie", who now only visits family there several times a year, I was enthralled with her story, the use of characters from all socio-economic backgrounds. Her descriptions were spot on. Yes, it truly does "Happen In the Hamptons".....Bravo......
