The Mediterranean Slow Cooker Cookbook: A Mediterranean Cookbook with 101 Easy Slow Cooker Recipes

Happy with this
I love slow cookers but often the recipes are not particularly healthy. These recipes are as easy as normal, still allow freedom to do other things while food prepares. But they are more varied than previous such cookbooks and many are adjusted to make them healthier

More Than Just Recipes – A Whole New Lifestyle
When I watch competitive cooking shows on TV, I am fascinated by the magic the chefs can work. Their dishes look like bold works of 23rd century architecture, and the flavors practically jump off the screen. I think about my own infantile cooking skills and get depressed. Even if I had skills, all the prep and cleanup involved in those fantastic creations would just be too exhausting. But what’s the alternative? Heavily processed Hungry Man dinners? Botched experiments eaten ruefully? No! This is where The Mediterranean Slow Cooker Cookbook comes to the rescue.Chapter One sets up the slow cooker as more of a subculture than a way of cooking food. It extolls the virtues of the long cook – the everything-in, set-and-forget method of making dinner before leaving the house for work. As a homebrewer, I can’t overstate how appealing this idea is for me. I love getting time on my side, and I love flavors battling and intermingling in unexpected ways. I imagine a lot of busy professionals looking to have a healthy dinner ready immediately after a long day would love these things too.Chapter Two gives some background on the Mediterranean diet and the flavor profiles of the different countries and regions. This is helpful for choosing what ingredients to stock, and what recipes to pursue. The recipes are clear and easy to follow. I do imagine there would be an adjustment period to get the timings and preparations down. However, I see the Mediterranean Slow Cook life becoming a healthful, flavorful, olive-oiled machine once one gets it down.Disclosure: I received this book at no charge.

A must have!
This is the second book I’ve read on the Mediterranean diet, so I was already familiar with the types of foods included. I think it’s important for you to know if you’re considering buying this book what type of different fare you’ll be eating. Here’s your answer: the countries which border the Mediterranean Sea are Italy, Greece, France, Morocco, and Spain. Do you like any of these types of cuisines? If so, you’ll like the foods included in this book.I’d been roused after reading the first Mediterranean cookbook, so I was rhapsodic to find one offering the same tasty food paired with the invaluable slow cooker. I wasn't disappointed either, as this book was incredibly helpful. It provides useful facts, as well as many tips and techniques about the best ways to use a slow cooker. I’ve indubitably used a crock pot before, but I learned a handful of essentials that I’m glad to know now. “The Mediterranean Slow Cooker Cookbook” includes important and worthwhile information, including the correct way to cut the food you’ll be putting in your slow cooker, which kitchen utensils are best to use, how to arrange the different foods in your cooker, and the suitable amount of food and/or liquid to add. These are just a few examples of the conducive material you’ll find in this book. Also, don’t forget about the 101 delicious recipes contained within the pages! I enjoin that you buy this cookbook! It’s worth the cost, and you’ll be able to use it indefinitely. Happy cooking!

Didn't Strike Me As Truly "Mediterranean"
First I will say that I have not made a single recipe that's in this book.I'd been hearing about how healthful the Mediterranean diet is, so I thought I'd check it out. Because I like slow cooker recipes, I ordered this book. I'm also keenly interested in healthful eating.Upon receiving this cookbook the first thing I noticed was that there are no Nutritional Facts for the recipes. So if you're interested in calorie counting or watching your carbs, this book is of no use. (Unless you want to weigh, measure, and calculate all of it out yourself for each recipe you make.) Since I do watch my calories and carbs, this book will probably get little if any use.Second, I was surprised to see meat and other ingredients in these recipes that do not strike me as "Mediterranean." Italian sausage? Beef roasts? Chicken Thighs? And recipes for chili? Several recipes call for alcohol, so if you're one who doesn't imbibe (as I am) that is another disappointment. From what I've learned of the Mediterranean diet, fatty red meats are seldom used and alcohol is consumed only sparingly.I suppose that most cooks in the Mediterranean region don't really use a slow cooker, so perhaps that's the reason for the variations in ingredients--to make them more suitable for a slow cooker. And I'm not doubting that the recipes are delicious based on what other reviewers have said. But while most of the recipes here do look like they're Mediterranean, several look more like American cooking with a little Mediterranean flair thrown in for show. They certainly do not look healthful!Overall, I was very disappointed in the contents of this book and will probably never use it. If you're just beginning to take note of the Mediterranean diet for its health aspects, do NOT begin with this book! Very disappointing for someone wanting a more healthful diet.

Top notch tasty
I've been a slow cooker aficionado for a couple of decades and I didn't think there was much left to try or be impressed by. I was wrong. So many healthy recipes I can't wait to try.

Good introduction to Mediterranean slow cooker cooking
I bought this recipe book as I wanted to learn more about how to incorporate a Mediterranean way of eating into both my husband’s and my lifestyle. I was looking for ideas for slow cooker recipes in particular as it can be a useful use of time where once a dish is thrown together I can basically do whatever else I want till hours later it’s ready. The Mediterranean slow cooker cookbook is a excellent value for the money. It’s begins by giving ideas of how to actually get the most benefits out of your slow cooker and though I’ve done slow cooker cooking for some years I’ve learnt new things from this recipe book. It then goes on how to set up your kitchen to cook Mediterranean followed by specific sections first for soups, pastas et al, vegetables, seafoods, poultry, meat and desserts. So far I made one meal sweet and spicy chicken which turned out quite well with interesting and complex flavours not too hot. The directions for the recipe were straightforward and fun to make. Tomorrow I’m looking forwards to trying the Moroccan chicken with apricots, almonds and olives. This recipe book meets and even exceeds my expectations for what it is: an introductory way of eating a Mediterranean diet. I find because the recipes are straightforward and easy to make it encourages healthier eating without undo fuss. In my opinion giving all these considerations it’s a welcome addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Very American.
Very American. Had to adjust weights and content for all recipes to match the Australian market. The occasional picture would have been nice

Good book, great recipes
Good recipes for a slow cooker, but not quite what I would like from the Mediterranean diet. Not enough variety.

Not a single picture!
When the book arrived I was extremely disappointed to see that there was not a single photo of a completed recipe. Maybe it's just me but I like to flip through recipe books and take inspiration from the photos of the finished product. In my opinion a lack of photos is an extremely lazy way to release a cook book. The use of pounds and ounces without a conversion is also disappointing.
