This is a gorgeous tall porcelain mug from Sioux native artist Maxine Noel titled Mother Winter. The mug is blue and white and features artwork of Mother Winter in flowing robes, watching with a polar bear (the polar bear is repeated on the inner rim). "Great majestic polar bear blends into the winter landscape, protected by Mother Winter." The mug is 4 ½" tall x 3" opening with a 2 3/8" base and in MINT condition with a short biography of the artist. A self-taught artist, Maxine Noel is skilled in many media. She seeks through the use of fluid images, flowing lines and subtle colors, to present essential characteristics of the Native people: their sensibilities, generosity and loving nature. “My Sioux name, Ioyan Mani, means “to walk beyond” and reveals my gift. A gift which gives me insight into what exists beyond.
