I gave this a 3 because this is my second thermometer of this brand and style. The first one lasted about 2 yrs and died and I think it should have lasted longer! But the performance is great.

If you're frustrated because you can't find an accurate thermometer - look no further. I've tried several. Consumer Report rated this one high, I clicked and bought it here on Amazon... YES! Finally, one that works as expected! I love this thermometer.

The thermometer works like a charm! It reads quickly, and appears to be accurate. My only issue is that the screw that holds the batteries in place will not reseat properly, and no matter how many times I have tried, the holes will not re-align once the batteries are installed, and the screw sticks out of the top of the thermometer. I have stopped trying to get it to install properly, as I am concerned that I will strip the head of the screw. Beside this inconvenience I am very pleased with the thermometer and recommend it!

The batteries are included with the thermometer but they are not installed. The instructions for doing so are clear, but they do not match the device. I spent an hour trying to get the batteries into the battery tray with the correct side up as instructed, but finally concluded that the only way they could be inserted was upside down. So I tried that, but — as expected — the thermometer did not work. I sent everything back to the manufacturer, explaining the situation and asking them to install the batteries for me. They have not responded nor, of course, returned the device — but it has only been a week since I sent it. The tiny screw that holds the battery drawer in place is difficult for my fat fingers to reinsert because the O-ring that makes the device waterproof makes it necessary to hold the drawer in while turning the screwdriver. That said, the device looks like it is well designed, well made, and of high quality materials, but I haven't tried it yet.

Overall this seems to be very accurate. I’m not sure how long it will last but so far so good.One flaw is the battery.... first off, mine only came with one battery, not the two required which confused me. Secondly, inserting the two batteries is a bit of the pain and clearly was not really thought through, making the rubber washer stay on is a pain and the screw is also a pain.

We are using this for a motivator/reinforcer for a 5th grader not for cooking. However, the alarm was sufficient if that is your use.Here were our requirements:1) Light2) audible alarm must be able to be turned off3) effective but quiet vibration4) must look coolThis timer meets all of those and more. This can count up and down. Can be set for minutes MM:SS or hours HH:MM. Alarm setting (audible, light, vibration) are on back and are small (so less tempting). Display is large and easily readable from some distance.What would have been nice:-Multiple timer function (e.g. T1, T2, T3, T4) so can track both how much time to transition and how long seated.-A backlightIn any event, the vibration is subtle, as is the light. It was enough to get our attention, but could possibly be missed. It does have a magnet and small fold-out stand.This is the exact same timer besides color (I bought both - mfr the same) as  Polder Digital Timer with Vibrating, Audible, and Illuminated Alarm . Personally, I like the red.

Battery installation is tricky and you need a small Phillips screwdriver. Unit is easy to use and has a large display. It also has a display light which can be activated in a dark setting. Both the light and the display will shut down after a short time if you forget to turn off the device. Readings can be set for either Fahrenheit or Celsius. Also the unit also stores both the lowest and the highest temperatures read after successive readings which can be deleted.

took me thirty minutes to get the batteries in as the instruction were not helpful. in the process i dislodged the rubber gasket and have no idea how to put it back so it's not waterproof any more.it works well otherwise and i will keep it
