A Fourth Treasury of Knitting Patterns

I love this, but I am pretty new.
Barbara Walker's books are a treasure for knitters. I suggest all of them to any knitter, no matter the stage they are at. Everyone can glean something from them. I don't know what else to say that's already been said. I did notice a review that said this book might be redundant, but I've not found it to be. The problem may be me. I have only been knitting for five years now. I got a lot out of this. So, if you want to get the complete set, I see no reason not to. However, if you can get three, perhaps you should just get the others and leave this one for later. As a newish knitter, I refer to this often. I'm at the point it's not above my head and not too much. I treasure it.

Useful, but not as good as the others in the collection.
If you're not going to buy the entire set, I would recommend buying any of the other 3 over this one (the second is my favorite). This one is set up differently than the others, as it contains some patterns for actual finished items as well as stitch patterns, but at least to me, it doesn't seem to contain as many useful stitch patterns as the others.

A crafty gift that can help them give back.
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my craft-warrior mother in-law. She already had the other volumes in her arsenal, so my wife & I figured it was a sure fire win. We were right on the money. From what she says, the style of book is a little different then the previous ones. I won't begin to say I know the first thing about knitting, and maybe anyone who knits can do it, but she was able to flip right open and start knitting away.

You might have most of this already, but there's new stitches, too.
I wondered what this would include, as I had Walker's First and Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, Charted Knitting Designs (now known as The Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns) as well as a couple of smaller books with additional patterns devised by Ms. Walker. I knew this Fourth Treasury was primarily made up of those smaller books, but there are also several new stitches that Ms. Walker has added. If you are a knitter, you want this book on your shelf.

"Treasury" is truly the word
When it comes to writing knitting texts, few people approach Walker's abilities to inspire and empower. As an inspiring knitwear designer, I find the word "Treasury" a quite apt description of the patterns in this, and all, of her pattern collections. As with any collection, there are patterns I immediately want to incorporate into a design, and patterns that don't make my hands itch for needles, but all of them are worthy of needles, wool, and time.

Good reference book.
This book in the Barbara Walker series of knitting stitch designs has less variety in knitting techniques than the other books. But it is still an excellent reference for knitters who want to try out new techniques.

Interesting and useful.
Even though I don't like the third or fourth books as much as the first and second, these last two still have a lot of value. They have more interesting and unique patterns than the more standard and every day ones you saw in the first two. There is a lot more colorwork and cabling.

Knitting from charts - not for everyone
I loved Barbara Walker's volumes I and II Treasury of Knitting Patterns, but I was a little disappointed in the Fourth Treasury of Knitting Patterns. Most of the patterns are worked from charts which are hard for me to see and follow. I think inexperienced knitters would be intimidated by the charts and symbols used to indicate different stitches. Some of the patterns I recognized from her two previous volumes with perhaps a slight variation here and there. My recommendation is to stick with her first two volumes of knitting patterns and pass this one by.

All four of Barbara Walkers books are in my opinion a must for every knitting designer and/or knitting enthusiasts. Not that you necessary need to use the patterns as is, but as a pleased inspiration.
