Butler Basketball Legends

A legendary book about Butler basketball legends
I could not put this book down. That happened, I'm sure, because I saw many of the games mentioned in the book and even was privileged to play against some of the legends mentioned in the book. The book is a nice review of some great Indiana basketball and I recommend it to anyone with such interest. I was taken aback when the author mentioned that the legendary Bevo Francis set a Butler fieldhouse record of 48 points. I was at the game and some friends and I organized a pool where the guy who came closest to predicting how many points Bevo would score would win the money. I hit his total right on the button. I wish the author had mentioned that Bevo became so well known in basketball circles that he appeared on the popular Ed Sullivan show. I played against Bobby Plump and was thrilled to play on the legendary Butler/ Hinkle fieldhouse floor. Every school boy in Indiana dreamed of playing there and this book helped make that memory more vivid for me. The book is well written and an easy read. If you love Indiana basketball then this book is for you. You might also enjoy a book I wrote titled Growing Up in Indiana: The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited. I congratulate the author of Butler Basketball Legends on his research to dig out all of the great stories in the book.Norman Jones, Ed. D.
