Great Maul story
Just starting to get into Legands and had finished the first Thrawn trilogy. I purchased the Kindle version of and also the Audible version. (Btw- found out the two platforms sync, which is nice bc I tend to go back and forth between reading and listening.)Great story- Maul is my favorite character and the author did a great job writing for him. Sam Witwer reads the audiobook, which was a definite plus. The author all and all could have left out the love story, which was kind of an odd juxtaposition to the plot, but the rest of the story was a good read. I wish there was more Maul content out there, especially by this author.

A fun read for any Star Wars fan, but don't expect to learn much about Darth Maul as a character
While fun to read, this book sadly writes Darth Maul into the same framing as The Phantom Menace: a 1-dimensional character that is a sidelined to the "more important" characters that the book follows. This book is full of the geeky "Star Wars" things that I love, and is not just another part of the expanded universe with no tie in to anything common / from the movies. There's plenty of cameo appearances, including Obi-wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Yoda, Qui Gon Jinn and others. There are cheeky referenced to THX-1138 and an "i have a bad feeling about this" utterance, and more. The core of the book explores a part of Coruscant that is rarely seen, at and below the surface level of the mega-city planet. In the depths are found beings and creatures of myth and legend, which prove to be an entertaining part of the story on their own.The character development outside of Darth Maul was also well done. I enjoyed seeing the characters change over time, and the way they worked together evolving. The relationships between the individuals was about as real-world as can be imagined in the short time period in which this book takes place. The writing style of the book was easy to read and engaging, though not outstanding or "can't put it down" quality. It was the story and the continued hope that there would be more focus on Darth Maul directly that kept me coming back.Sadly, the book left me with a sense of loss when it came to Darth Maul... while the name of the book and the action that takes place are largely credited to Darth Maul, the story itself puts him in second place as a side story to help move the action along at key points. There are a few points in which Darth Maul's character is revealed slightly... but over-all, he is very 1 dimensional in this book....The Kindle edition that I purchased included the "Restraint" Darth Maul short story, which I thought was excellent, well written and much to my relief, focused on Darth Maul as a person and his growth as a warrior. This short story, which follows after the core content of the book, was highly engaging, very energetic and showed a side of Darth Maul that I had not yet seen - his teenage years spent at the end of his time on Orsis. The short story starts with a fast pace and does not stop until it's done....The kindle version I purchased also included The "Saboteur" short story which I had previously read and reviewed. If I had known this book included it, I would not have purchased it separately. However, you should know that you need to read Saboteur first otherwise the main story here is out of order....The tie in to the Darth Plageuis book is well done from both the main story and from the Restraint and Saboteur short stories, on several fronts. I am glad I read Darth Plageuis for this reason. All of the stories in this book make sense on their own, but having read Darth Plageuis (in spite of my opinion about that book) made these stories more enjoyable for me as I was able to insert various events surrounding these stories in my mind.

My favorite Darth Maul book
I'm going to start by saying this is my favorite Darth Maul book. Much better than the past one, Lockdown.I don't want to spoil the book, but events are falling into place leading to The Phantom Menace. The book doesn't lack action and keeps you engaged without boring you with the right amount of detail about the scene.

A surprisingly good Star Wars novel.
I started this one thinking "Well it is about Darth Maul. How good can it be?" I will tell you this, it is pretty freaking good. The smart move that was made here is that most of the main characters are made up for this book only. This is a smart choice because it allows the author to breathe and examine characters that can do anything before the end of the book.Whenever you start a new Star Wars book you know the one thing that isn't going to happen is any of the main characters are going to die. This isn't exactly the case here. The characters are well drawn. They have motivations and past that help inform what they do, and how they act. I was just so pleasantly surprised how much effort was put into this one. You can tell the author was trying to deliver something better than the audience has come to expect. This novel has a little bit of everything. It is funny. The main character has a robot partner that steals every scene he is in. It has action. There is real weight with these. You are never sure if they will make it out of each situation. This book will just shock you at how well crafted it is. The best part of it is that the ending rocks. One of the best endings I have ever read in a Star Wars book.

Well Paced and a Fun Read
If you, like many others, were ticked off that Darth Maul met an early demise in the Star Wars franchise and wanted more of him, well this is definitely the book for you. Quite possibly the most interesting character birthed out of the Episode I-III debacle, Maul's fiction written by various authors is enough to sate even the most hungry appetites.Although not considered canon, the story is nonetheless worth the read. Maul is tasked by Darth Sidious to perform an onerous chore, killing a Neimoidian by the name of Hath Monchar. Monchar plans to leak information about the Trade Federations plans for Naboo and Sidious wants him dealt with. And so he sends his apprentice, Maul, to Coruscant to do the dirty work. Although he isn't pleased with such a boring chore, Maul does not question his Master and simply goes there to do the job. What was supposed to be a too easy accomplishment becomes a dangerous goose chase thorough the lower regions of the Republic's capital when a Jedi, an information broker, and his droid friend get entangled in Maul's mission. Thus begins a wild goose chase through the nether-regions of Coruscant.Other than the fact that it IS a wild goose chase that becomes rather tedious to read about, the book moves at a well-thought out, easy pace that leaves you wondering how in the world Maul will somehow manage to keep the Sith's existence secret while simultaneously fulfilling his mission.

Very Well done. Love it when the author does not necessarily spare the readers feelings. More to come I hope.

Nice to read
It is amazing how these stories in genreal and this particular one fits into the general Star Wars theme, story, timeline or whatever to call it. I enjoyed very much reading it. Even though it had no happy end for the good guys as one might expect, it had one from the point view of the actual protagonist.

Got a used book for Rs. 260. Can't complain for the price. Condition was better than average. Could have been a bit more cheap.
