Better Beekeeping: The Ultimate Guide to Keeping Stronger Colonies and Healthier, More Productive Bees

Still currently reading this book, but it was better than I expected at first glimpse of paging through it. This book doesn't necessarily explain HOW to be a better beekeeper, but it "plants" ideas and questions into your head so you can take a step back and evaluate how and why you are handling your bees. The book covers a good bit of topics you should/can consider in a beekeeping operation, and will certainly be helpful when it comes time for myself to start expanding. This is a business book about beekeeping, and I would recommend to others even if you are not looking to bee-keep for profit. Lots of color pictures, good text/picture ratio.

Nothing beats hand on instruction from a good bee keepers association, except on site mentoring. However, one year later, I can say that this book is a good book in general. They even have a section for beekeeping practices in all areas of the country! which is very nice. Southern beekeeping is far different that beekeeping in cold climates. If you are in the South, try to find a book for your area.

Great bee book! I'm a new hobbyist beekeeper and I have most of Flottum's books, so I didn't think this book would contain anything new. I was surprised to learn this was not the case, and I devoured it, which isn't hard to do considering the frequent and informative color photos. I have already referred back to this book several times since I've owned it, as well as used the photos to illustrate something to my "non-bee" family members. Worth the money!!

If I could pull all the stars from the sky, and line them up against these 5, it would still be less than what this book deserves. All potential beekeepers and already existing beekeepers, actually anybody thinking of putting their career/ideas into action, will find this book educating. Clearity is the focus of this book and tips, very valuable tips. The best I can describe this book is just 'Read the Damn Book'.

Kim states this fact right in the very beginning of his book. It has observations and advice, and few if any Either / OR answers.. No questions that are answered Yes or no.. That was what I was looking for when i bought this book METHODS he, or others used TO keeping Stronger Colonies and Healthier more productive bees. Those things are NOT in this book.. Having said that, there are a LOT of good bits of information and advice.. Observations if you will, and questions that make you step back and look at what you are doing, why your doing it, and where you plan to BE doing it in the future... In example.. he talks about Finding the right bees. He does NOT TELL you where to find the right bees, or who currently has the "right" bees, but gives you valuable advice you NEED to find them yourself. While this is NOT what I thought I was buying.. I AM glad I bought it, and read it, and am reading it again. I will keep it in my library of other bee related books with NO regrets!!

Better Beekeeping isn't a beginners book really, but I read it when I was just beginning and found it helpful. Now that I'm soon to surpass the 30 hive mark, I'm sure I will be opening it up again and again to glean from the wisdom contained in its pages.

Lots of good, practical, bee keeping information. Nothing extra ordinary but a good book for bee keepers.

This had a lot of information that I did not know and I have kept honeybees since 1998. I have already implemented some of these ideas and tips in this springs colonies. Happy Beekeeping year everyone!

This book disappointed me a little bit. From other reviews in diferent pages I thought I was buying something like an "advanced beekeeping book". I was looking for a book focused on a professional insight. But it is not. You will find some interesting ideas (as mixing agriculture and apiculture to grow honey crops that give you a good honey harvest). But I think that is only another way to keep bees not a book for people who looks for information in his way to a professional development of beekeeping.

I like this book because it is not aimed at complete beginners and gives the "business" perspective - always considering scaling up and balancing time vs money.Great that it's on Kindle :)
