Crazy simple to install to bring your fans in to the 21st century
Very easy to install - it may be a bit too wide to tuck in to the canopy on some fans but most fans made in the past decade actually have a spot built in to their bases where you can double sided tape them in to place on the hanger frames. The remote is a bit weird (more buttons than needed and in odd alignments) but when paired with a smart wall switch (just using it as a scene controller - not connected to the fan power itself) you can just control it from there and leave the remote by your bed, etc. Sonoff makes great hardware and they actually respect the open source/hardware hacker community so you can easily flash the hardware to ESPHome/Tasmota/etc and bypass their app all together if you choose. The remote works on 433Mhz so you can also use 3rd party RF remotes and switches (very easy to sync). I have several of these around my house and the remotes are linked to the individual fans and do not interfere with one another or you can sync the remote to multiple fans and control several at once. Really easy to work with and customize. The only con is they do not include a wall mount/holder for the remote itself but they can be found aftermarket for a few dollars.

Best Home Assistant Integration, But Not Perfect
I have been looking for a drop in control box for current ceiling fans that would integrate into Home Assistant. The iFan04 is the best solution I have come up with (the iFan04 is for the United States, while the iFan03 would need modification to get working). Not a fan of cloud control or using 3rd party apps to get working, so I decided to flash the ESP8266 board with ESPHome and it worked well. You have to use jumper wires if you want to flash the board as there is no usb connection. It's about the same process to flash any of the Sonoff products. There are already posts on the Home Assistant forum for working ESPHome code. The remote can be confusing at first, but works well for some hardware control. The manual has information on how to pair the remote to the control boxes. This kit came with 2 control boxes and 2 remotes.Installation:I have added these on two fans and both have had a different experience. The iFan04 itself works without issue, but old control boxes can have different sets of wires you need to match up. Nothing bad, just be aware it's not going to be plug n' play. The box is a few millimeters different in size on one of my fans that required some of the plastic shroud to be sanded down.Integration on Home Assistant:- My first fan has three temperature color LEDs and I was able to cycle them by turning the light control on/off.- My second fan has three temperature color LEDs and RGB LEDs, but I was only able to get the white LEDs to work. (Most likely need to rework the code, but the old cheap control box wires were confusing to understand).- On both, the fan speed is adjustable by 33%, 66%, and 100%. Buzzer/Beep also toggles on or off. When first turning on from no power there is a quick flash of the LEDs, but if the light is toggled from HA then no flickers.I am going to be testing a fan with 6 speed fan control hopefully soon, so I will update when that happens.Other Thoughts:I would have liked to see a micro usb or type-c usb interface for flashing the board. I do appreciate being able to flash my own software, but the board and case have space for it. Documentation on the iFan04 could be greatly improved especially if flashing is new to a user. Each box has line of sight with my AP's, so WiFi has been solid. No other complaints and they have been running great for a few months now. Firmware for ESPHome has been working on 2023.8.3 (latest as of 9/20/23) and are able to update over WiFi.

Terrific, Home Assistant (via ESPHOME) and works locally
I installed 4 of these, and they all work great. I wish the light was a dimmer, but other than that nit they work great. I reflashed them with esphome, which was easy and well documented, and they work great with Home Assistant. They are a tad large but did fit in my existing Home Depot fans.

It didn't work and customer service stopped responding
The unit is too big to fix in the fan housing. So installed in on the ceiling with tape.I could not get it to work. When powered up it would just continually beep. The manual says it will beep to say its in pairing mode. It doesn't say it will beep for hours on end. When I press a key on the remote the unit stops beeping . Okay I thought maybe that's just how it works. It seemed to work, but then after about 45 minutes it just started beeping again. If I hit a key it will stop but again in 45 minutes to one hour it will start beeping again.I contacted customer service and English wasn't their first language. I replied back that what they told me didn't help. We went around for about 3 days, I would send a email and a day later they would reply and I would reply back and so on. But at the end when I said it would start beeping again after about 1 hour they never replied back to me.So I'm out the money. I read a couple others had the same issue. So not sure if its just my unit or how it works. If you don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night with the beeping. I would suggest to look elsewhere.

Best ceiling fan controller to integrate into HomeKit
I have tested many ceiling fan controllers, some running by RF controlled by equipment like Broadlink RM Pro to make them smart. But since I ordered a SONOFF iFan04 unit for testing, I found an excellent product to replace all -again, all- my old "semi-smart" fan controllers. It has direct support for 2.4Ghz WiFi. But for those of us who use a single SSID for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies, the application has a compatible installation function to configure the device without having to change our network settings.I can configure through the app what the is the behavior when power outage, for both the light and the fan. And best of all, I found a plugin for Homebridge that has allowed me to add it to HomeKit with a very awesome response time. Although it also works with Alexa or Google Home.
