Review
With rich audio, deep bass, and crisp highs, they’re ideal for both casual listening and immersive experiences. The active noise cancellation is among the best in the market, effectively silencing background noise in even the loudest environments. They’re lightweight and comfortable for long sessions, though some users with smaller heads may feel a bit of pressure at the crown. While the non-foldable design affects portability slightly and the price is on the higher side, the overall experience makes them well worth the investment

Would buy again and again
Absolutely LOVE these headphones. They are comfortable and we like the gray color. The battery life is awesome as is the noise canceling. The sound quality is great for us. We are casual listeners and think they are great. One family member received them as a gift and others are now asking for them!

A Symphony of Silence
The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones redefine what consumers expect from premium noise-cancelling technology. These headphones are not just an audio device; they are an experience, offering unparalleled noise cancellation that feels like stepping into a bubble of tranquility. The sound quality is stellar, with rich bass, clear mids, and crisp highs, making every track, from classical to hip-hop, sound vibrant and true. The design has evolved, being lighter and more comfortable for prolonged use, featuring a sleek, modern look that's both functional and fashionable. With up to 30 hours of battery life with ANC on, and intuitive touch controls, the WH-1000XM5 is engineered for both the audiophile and the frequent traveler. One of the standout features is the advanced noise cancellation, which uses multiple microphones and a sophisticated algorithm to adapt to your environment, whether you're on a noisy train or in a bustling café. The Sony Headphones Connect app further enhances usability, allowing for personalized sound settings, including an adaptive sound control that adjusts based on your location or activity. Additionally, the integration of voice assistants and the ability to handle calls with remarkable clarity make these headphones a versatile companion for any scenario. While the price tag is on the higher side, the value delivered through comfort, sound quality, and noise cancellation technology positions the WH-1000XM5 as a leader in its category. The only minor critique might be the non-foldable design, which slightly impacts portability, but the trade-off in comfort and performance makes it a negligible concern for most. This is a product that not only meets but exceeds expectations, cementing Sony's reputation at the forefront of audio innovation.

Incredible noise cancellation, very comfortable & mostly great sound quality
I needed the best isolation possible for mixing in-ear monitors. My application for these headphones is probably unlike 90% of other Sony XM5 buyers, so my priorities were also probably different. Creating a mix for live bands / on-stage situations requires good isolation, and in my case (standing right next to the drum riser) is difficult to say the least. I needed the best active noise canceling I could get my hands on, and these headphones do an astoundingly good job - making it much easier to hear what I'm doing. A full acoustic rock drum kit not more than 10 feet away sounds muffled - literally as if it was in an adjacent room with the door closed. I am truly amazed at how good the noise reduction is with the XM5s. I previously used the Bose in a similar (but not quite as demanding) situation, and they also did a great job, but the Sony XM5 is better. I love the fact that I can easily connect a regular 3.5mm cable (included with the headphones) to my monitor mixer and clearly hear what I'm mixing - even with the drums going full-tilt right next to me. I also love the ability to simply place my hand on the right ear cup to temporarily cancel the noise canceling and activate the ambient sound mode. I can then have a conversation with someone without having to take the headphones off. These are truly awesome features for my application.I bought my pair refurbished and got them for well under the retail price, but I would say they're worth it even at full retail. That said, I have not (and probably will not) use many of the other features these headphones have. I don't use Bluetooth for critical listening and I have other Bluetooth devices for telephone calls. I took one star off my rating for two reasons. The app (required to access even the basic features) isn't the sleekest or most intuitive. Also, the app doesn't seem able to connect to the headphones at all if the hardwired cable is in use - any adjustment must be made before connecting the cable. The one saving grace is that your adjustments (equalizer, noise canceling parameters, etc.) ARE applied to the analog signal coming through the hardwired connection. I can only hope Sony will sort this out with firmware updates down the road. The second reason for missing the 5 star rating for me is sound quality. These are not the best headphones I've ever heard. They're not even the best SONY headphones I've ever heard. The sound quality is very good, and pretty neutral - so don't misunderstand me - the biggest issue I have with these headphones is the soundstage / imaging. They do not deliver the imaging one often gets with a pair of audiophile headphones. That said, these are not marketed as audiophile headphones, so I am not terribly disappointed. The XM5s are made for a different use case, and for me they are plenty accurate for what I need. They are not boomy or harsh - they don't add a ton of coloration to the source signal and the bass response is accurate with plenty of punch, even without a lot of super low-range extension. I tend to not use the gimmicky bass enhancement stuff these headphones have (along with so many other consumer-grade audio products). Maybe if I played with that I'd find some more bass, but I really don't think it necessary. These headphones do a very good job right out of the box (after a coupe hours of break-in). Listening to high quality music via the LDAP Bluetooth codec is quite satisfying... just not "hair raising"...and I think they're at least 90% as good as the last Bose Quiet Comfort headphones I heard, with significantly better noise cancellation. Overall, I really like these headphones a lot. I wish I loved them, but I do really like them, and they give me exactly what I need - I'm very satisfied overall.

Sooo comfortable! Great battery life!
Loving these headphones so much! They are soooo comfortable. I had a pair of Beats headphones & I could seriously only wear them for 20 minutes before my ears starting hurting. I have a lot of piercings as well, so any pressure on my ears from headphones is really uncomfortable. They fit over my whole ear and are so soft. Battery life is awesome, it lasts so long. The charging cable is so short, like 6 or 7 inches. You do have to download an app in order to connect the bluetooth to your phone which feels unnecessary to have an app that I don't use, but have to have in order to connect to my phone. But all to say, I am so happy with this purchas!
