Gilt bronze. 7th-10th century. Just under 1" height. Of symmetrical form with the center expanded as a square. The back recessed for inclusion of a Holy Relic, such as a splinter of the True Cross or the hair of a saint. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored for contemporary wear.
