These are very well made QR plates.QR plates for long lenses will gradually unscrew unless held in place by a pin or a lip. This is frustrating and even risky, because the optics can take a tumble quite unexpectedly.These plates have a lip which snugs to the foot of the lens and prevents the plate from getting unscrewed. All QR plates should have this feature, but not everyone is even aware that it is available..I ordered this plate and its 60mm sibling for my spotting scopes and am pleased with the quality supplied.The plates are nicely finished coated aluminum, the rubber pads are well fitted and soberly colored, the lip is detachable if desired, the holding screw is stainless steel, with a recess for an Allen wrench as well as a groove for a screwdriver and the plate has a slot for a holding strap.They are delivered in a robust ziploc bag, along with a microfiber cloth. The bag is useful for storing spare plates or parts, the cloth is a nice freebie. .

Just got a new ball head and wanted a few extra QR plates for some of my lenses etc. This size is perfect. I had purchased the 60mm before and they were too big....returned. The descriptions recommends the 40mm for smaller cameras however the 40mm is perfect for my tripods/monopods that I own. And comparing it to previous tripods the 40mm seems to be the standard size. If in question order the 40 and the 60, but once again 40mm seems to be more of the standard. It feels very durable and an excellent value for the price. I'm looking at purchasing more. I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend.Update 11/15/18After attempting to use this on my Vanguard Tripods (Altra Pro 2+ and Veo 2 CB) I was disappointed that they didn't fit. It didn't occur to me until a good month later that I should try to remove these metal screws at the bottom of the plate as it did not allow for me place to sit flush on these mounts. Well I did remove them and now they are flawless. Now they truly serve their purpose and everything I can throw at them. I have a few camera bodies and I plan on placing one on each camera. Once again what a great high quality product.

Overall I'm happy with the plate and its quality and utility. However, I did have to make a couple adjustments and I have one concern:From the item description: "We also added two adjustable (and removable) stainless steel screws on either end of the tripod plate to prevent the camera from sliding off by accident if you haven’t adjusted the tension 100% yet."To use this with my gear I had to remove the two screws from the underside of the ends of the plate — with the 40 mm plate they wound up resting on the clamp instead of overhanging the edges, so the plate wasn’t able to rest flat in the clamp until I removed the screws.From the item description: “This Quick Release Plate also features a loop for camera straps, and a removable end-piece allowing the photographer to position the plate flush against the back of the camera body for increased stability.”The loop for a camera strap is the primary reason I selected this plate. My concern is that the inside edge of the loop is not rounded, and while it is not sharp enough to cut the Peak Design anchors on my camera strap, it is slightly rough and I’ll have to keep an eye on the strap anchor for wear. (Update: I wrapped it with a small piece of gaffers tape to deal with the potential issue.)I also had to remove the end-piece because it interfered with the flip out screen on the back of my camera.Being able to make the adjustments so easily is a real plus (the screws require a 2.5 mm hex head).

This is an extremely high quality plate while also (somehow?) being one of the cheapest on the market. Fully anodized, stainless hardware, and great rubber pads to stop it from rotating. This is also the only plate I've ever seen with a removable foot on the back, making it more versatile for lens foots or camera uses. I use the foot for extra anti-rotation insurance on my Nikon FM and it's delightful.However, the images in this listing are outdated. The old version, which I bought a month ago, is fairly close except for the branding, which says Colorado Tripod Co. instead of Breakthrough Photography. The new version received today (1/29/2021) updated the optional foot to include two bubble levels in place of the screws! This was an inspired design change and allows me to have extremely well-placed yet discreet levels on my FM (or any other compact film camera), but it doesn't match the older pictures on the listing.This plate has to be a loss leader for Breakthrough - the entry level Benro/RRS plates are twice the price or more and don't have levels or removable shelves. I love it and won't hesitate to order a few to have enough for all of my bodies.

Very nice looking product with a good finish. It works fine in a screw clamp I have on one tripod, but it is slightly too narrow to be locked by the lever clamp on my Really Right Stuff clamp on my main tripod. Other quick release plates I own all clamp correctly with the lever clamp. I give 3 stars because it is nicely finished plate which works with some clamps, just not the RRS lever clamp.

There were reviews questioning the sizing of this plate and I can confirm that this plate perfectly fits the RRS clamps (BH-55 head with lever clamp), which many among us may view as some kind of standard. I personally like the stopper screws to prevent accidental release. If your tripod head does not have the necessary grooves, just remove them (wrench not included but screws fit many multi-tools). The built-in levels are cute but useless (tiny). Solid, enough friction to prevent sliding, even includes ridge to prevent rotation against body or lens foot. Great plate for very fair price.

Great quality plate with decent ‘grippy’ rubber, attached perfectly to my G Series Panasonic.
