Lime and Avocado better than the sum of its parts.
I use Col. Conk Lime Glycerine Shave Soap along with (Taylor of Old Bond Street Avocado Shaving Cream). I usually use warm water on my brush and once it is damp I use it to lather the Lime soap until I see the brush is loaded, then I use my finger to get a pea sized amount of the Avocado cream and spread it on my loaded brush. I start to lather both lime & avocado in a bowl to get a rich lather and amazing scent. The shave is smooth I feel the Glycerine really helps give great lubrication and the Avocado cream adds body and thick lather.I have used this method for 5 years and I love it, I always get a nice consistent shave and no razor burn, no break outs, no issues with my skin. Using both ingredients I also noticed that they last a long time about 3-5 months for the Lime soap and 6-8 months from the Avocado cream, that's a great deal compared to other creams and gels which are usually far inferior to this combination. I originally saw a youtube video of this combination and thought why would I want to use two products instead of just getting one that does the job of both, but after trying a few other quality products I felt they did not beat this combination. Finally the Scent combination of Lime and Avocado is Great both complement each other very well. Highly recommended.

smells good
nothing fancy, but it works good and smells good. I'm not really used to shaving soap but i've used regular soap to shave and this works great paired with a badger hair brush. glycerin shaving soap is more interesting than regular arosol creams or gel and takes very little for a full face of lather. I'm only 27 so when people see my old school shaving supplies they gotta know what's up. When my girlfriend first smelled it she made that special good kind of moan people make when they take the first sip of good coffee. i gotta shave my face and wash my butt-crack every day and if you get a brush and this soap you might enjoy shaving. if you want to take a shower after shaving so i don't smell you at work, awesome! soap will continue to work for hundreds more years so lets all embrace it!

NOT THE SAME
Have used Col Conk shaving soap for 20+ years and always liked it. Agree with the review stating the line was dark and didn't smell right; still gave good save. These new bars in the box are not the same! There is no glycerin and although the initial lather is good it dries up before I'm half way through my save. Have ordered from Col Conk and it was the same as what is here on Amazon. Might as well use Ivory. Have sent back to Col Conk with a nice note and will be sending back my Amazon order.

Very Nice
I first tried solid shaving soap after I tired of driving over mountains only to find my shaving kit filled with the foam from a leaky can. Solid shaving soap not only solved the leaky can problem, it has a comparable price, lasts longer, takes up a fraction of the space and works every bit as well -- better when used with a brush (and even better than that with a proper up and down brush stroke.)Colonel Ichabod Conk Lime Shave Soap is a glycerine based soap that is more expensive than, but superior to non glycerine based soaps such as Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shave Soap - 2.5 oz , or Williams Mug Shaving Soap - 1.7 Oz ; however, Colonel Conk is slightly irritating, it stings just a bit if you leave it on too long (but stops stinging as soon as you wash it off.)Colonel Conk is not as good -- or as expensive -- as the magnificent European shaving creams like Proraso Eucalyptus Shaving Cream Tube , yet it gives great lather and a buttery smooth shave with no need for aftershave (though you may still want one), and leaves a very nice scent that is light, does not overpower, and goes well with the classic light or citrus colognes.Like all such soaps, Conk fits perfectly into a Dark Wood Shave Bowl with Lid . Make sure to use with plenty of hot water, a double edge razor and a good badger hair brush, and be sure to protect your brush with a good stand too, such as a Nickel Shaving Brush Holder .

Shaving soap but not transparent glycerin
As this is a shaving soap, it should be good.

Great shaving soap!
Being new to shaving soaps, I have researched the web forums and youtube until my eyes have crossed. I wanted to try both glycerine and tallow based soaps. I have purchased both and like them both. I wanted to try the lime because it seemed a little different. I enjoy it very much. It has a pleasant scent to it that's not overpowering. It doesn't last that long though, but not a big deal to me. It has a nice rich lather that is slick and with my Parker 90R safety razor, I was able to shave against the grain under my chin. I have never been able to do that before. I've used it for a few days now and I can't tell any degradation on the puck which tells me it will last a while. So, if you're considering Col. Conk lime, go for it!

Col. Conk Lime Glycerine Shave Soap....
it a great value soap. It is quite slick, and easy to lather. Although it can be a bit thirsty, you will just need to add a tiny bit more water. The scent is very nice right off the puck, but fades away little by little as you later your face or lather into a bowl, or mug. Two shaves in with this glycerin shave soap and I must say I like it quite a bit. Soon I will be trying their "Bay Rum" and "Amber" variety. A good buy, and quite affordable.

Makes a good lather.
Good product. Works better than the fancy hipster stuff. Probably has some extra chemicals but who cares if it works. Makes a good thick lather.
