To Be Young, Gifted and Black (Signet Classics)

One of my all-time favorite books
This book is very special to me. I still have my very first, well-worn copy purchased in 1990. I ordered this newer copy for a friend to read because I refuse to loan mine to anyone. Her story is beautifully carried through everything that she wrote. Her plays, poetry, and letters to those closest to her tell a truly beautiful biography.

Great overview of her life and writing.
This book will leave you wanting more! She is a great story teller and had a most interesting and 'real' life. The more I read the more I wanted to know more about her.

A life worth living.
This book is very uplifting and inspirational. It tells a life that was certainly well lived, in work, and a very special bond with another favorite writer of mine : James Baldwin. I'm so glad I bought it.

A great read for Young Black students
Sometimes in our youth, we need a little push and inspiration. I believe Lorraine Hansberry, To Be Young, Gifted, and Black does just that. Enjoy her story while reading through her critically acclaimed scripts.

Great Book
Most are familiar with her other work 'A Raisin In The Sun', but this work gives insight to the personal side of the author exposing her deeper thoughts. The format of the book is slightly different in that in between her personal writings are snippets from her productions, it can throw you off at first but overall it complements the tone of the book. A truly gifted mind that died far too young, if she had lived, there would be even more of her classics available today.
