Great book
One of my favorites of the What if Jesus was Serious book series. It makes for great conversation and also helps you discern and be a little bit wiser about choosing a church to worship in.

Jesus was serious about the church
I have really enjoyed Skye’s “What if Jesus was Serious…” series, and this is no exception. The pages are full of scripture, thoughtful explanations, and fun doodles! Easy to digest, but packed full of nutrition. Sweet reminder of who the church truly is, and how we can grow. If you want to learn even more, listen to the Holy Post Podcast too!

really hit home for me.
Very helpful to understand just how far off the mark we may become as a church especially if you are in an evangelical church.

Provoking
I thank God for the gift that Skye Jethani. I owe a lot to him and Phil Vischer for getting out of a very spiritually disillusioned state 4 years ago. This book has challenged me to think differently about church and has expanded my understanding of the kingdom of God. Thank you Skye and Moody publishers.

Definitely one sided, but on a good side.
Jethani proposes a vision of the church that was lost and is yet to be found… again… (at least here in the modern western evangelical movement). His arguments are biblical, concise, and compelling. His drawings are equally thought provoking (and make for good sermon slides). I will say his attempts at even-handedness can be seen as anecdotal to his main point in each section. Overall this is a very challenging book that forces its readers to come to grips with their own ecclesiology and ask the question “what if Jesus really was serious?” 10/10 would recommend.

Thoughtful and enlightening ...
As with the previous books in this series, Jethani cuts to the heart of the matter. If you are perplexed by or struggling with the concept of church at this point in history, you will benefit from the author's to-the-point writing and accompanying "doodles" on this very important topic

Obvious but not common enough
Skye's lessons from Scriptures on what the church should be is obvious if you know or begin to know the heart of God. Sadly, due to tradition and power plays and personal preferences, what God calls the church to be is not found often enough in our neighborhoods. Although very easy to read, these are great thought generators on how your church organization my need to change to better be the church culture we are called to be.

Encountering community at the table
Skye Jethani has articulated many of the issues that did not sit well with me concerning the operation of the typical American evangelical church. I thoroughly enjoyed his diagnosis of church culture mirroring corporations rather that gospel communities. This was summed up well with the common trait of a coffee bar in the church lobby in the place of a community meal (table). Skye draws several key conclusions from this that are thought provoking. In addition, his doodles are helpful in illustrating his points. Please read this book.

Pretty Good
I really like Skye and have been impacted by his books (especially With) but I found this to be quite cynical. I realize that this book exists in some ways as a critique but I found it to make some generalizations about church leaders and churches that were not always fair. Yes I believe Jesus was serious about the church and there are a lot of good points in here but too cynical.
