Perfect for my rookie season of sugaring
This seemed like the best deal to get my feet wet in the sugaring hobby. I have many maples in my yard and wanted to take a crack at making syrup. I have two young boys and I thought it would be good for them to see where the real syrup comes from. The process was a little long to hold their attention, but I enjoyed the first round and will boil my remaining sap this weekend. My one mistake, having little to do with the product and more to do with my rookie season, was putting the taps too high in the trees. I failed to account for the snow melt and now my tubes are stretched to the limit to reach my containers. In one case, I had to put a block under the bottle, so that the tube could reach.

This was a great buy! I have only been tapping for a few years and would tie cleaned out milk jugs to taps. This works fine but I have to stain out bugs and if the jugs are not tied on well the wind can blow them off to the side and the sap just runs down the tree. With the tap and tube the sap goes into the jugs with no room for any bugs to get in! The book was very informative too. I was told by a tapper that I could tap some trees that were in fact a little to small to be tapping. So I'm down to 7 trees instead of 10 but that's ok if in years to come I'll be able to tap them. The extra jugs that I made ready makes it easy to switch them out with the full jugs and carry the sap back to be boiled.

First Timer - Wish Me Luck!
Although I haven't yet put it to use, this tapping kit looks to be just what I need for my first ever Maple Syrup project. I really appreciate the professional guide book and all the info will be helpful. I also appreciate the filter included but wonder if a couple more would have been a better touch. Checking out the CD today as I'm concerned about identifying Sugar Maples which is not easy in March. If anything, this part could have been better explained. Hopefully the CD will provide what I need. Thanks

Great Starter Kit!
I just wanted tot say that this is a great starter kit. It came with everything I needed. The quick start pages were great. It actually helped me to get some trees tapped for this early thaw we are experiencing. This kit also come with a free electronic version of the book, thou I have yet to download it. I would recommend this kit for anyone wanting to start sapping. I will be purchasing more equipment from this company in the future.

Arrived just in time for tapping
Nice package of useful articles. My only complaint is the down tubes are a little short. I like to tap at breast height and the tubes are not long enough to reach a milk bottle on the ground. In future years I may find a way to extend the tubes a bit and go to all tubes and spiles rather than a spile and a bucket on the tree.

Totally Exceeded Expectations!
I don't usually review products, but I'm making an exception. This may be the single best $36 I've ever spent. In addition to easy to use spiles (taps) and blue tubing, there is an extremely clear and concise booklet on how to tap trees for syrup. I love a DIY project, and this one really ranks high on the list. As a total beginner I just bottled 6.5 pints of my own maple syrup. So fun, and homesteader-ish!

I'd tap dat
I've lived at a house w/ a dozen or more maple trees, and one day I had a lightbulb moment: Imma tap dat for some sweet syrup! So I ordered up this handy dandy little kit and lo and behold I have a solid quart of Wisconsin Maple syrup. The included book really was the key to my success. I learned so much and and the splines were very easy to tap. My two girls think dad is a nature superhero. This was a great product at a great price

Great Starter Kit
This is a fantastic starter kit if you want to get into making your own syrup.I live in Alberta, and tapping trees isn't as big a thing here as it is in Eastern Canada (we're more into drilling for oil, lol). I bought this as a fun project to share with my little boys, and was not disappointed. We used this kit to tap the Manitoba Maples in our yard; the instructions were clear and helpful, and the taps and tubing worked great. I used water jugs to collect the sap, and boiled it down on our stove. We didn't get much syrup for our trouble, but I know my boys will remember the experience for many years to come.
