SoundLAB – Cream Mini Earpiece with Jack, 3.5 mm

Bought two of these, one was dead on arrival but too lazy to return for the cost, the other kind of worked but sound quality was truly appalling.No, this isn't unrealistic expectations, I'm fully aware you can't expect high fidelity from a crystal earpiece but when you are struggling to make out what a newsreader on Radio 4 is saying something is wrong.At first I thought it was something wrong with the radio set - let's face it, the only real use for something like this is homebuilt stuff - so I dug out my old earpiece from when I was the ten year old building a radio with my Dad.Whole different world, I didn't remember that a crystal radio could sound so clear, even classical music was quite enjoyable. Just not with this earpiece.

I used the earpieces for a crystal radio I was building. They worked well, I could hear Radio 4 Long Wave all the way from Droitwich. UK. It was live cricket commentary. Note. Modern diodes are next to useless in a crystal radio. The old see through ones are better, but I can’t remember what they are called. And don’t skimp on the earth connection. And the aerial needs to be seriously long, say 50 yards.

The ear piece is very large and is hard plastic so is very uncomfortable but most importantly it doesn't work! Avoid.

Shorting on first use. Absolute rubbish.
