I just finished knitting my first pattern from this book, and I want to warn other knitters. Yes, the hats are adorable, but if I wasn't an experience knitter I would have had a lot of trouble. First of all, the knitting needle sizes listed are wrong. On EVERY pattern. It also does not specify the length of circular needles needed.The amount of yarn required for every pattern is "one skein" of lion brand bulky. I made the middle size of 3 sizes, and ran out of yarn.The way the patterns themselves are written is unnecessarily complicated. Every row is written out, even if there are dozens of rows that are the same in sequence. Nothing is abbreviated. This makes it very time consuming to figure out the patterns.When making the middle of three sizes, pattern detail that one would expect, like cables lining up with ribbing properly, were not considered at all. In the picture the cables and ribbing line up, though I expect this is only for one size, likely the smallest.In addition, the pattern font is MINISCULE. If you don't have excellent eyesight, you may want to reconsider.In short, I am very disappointed by this book. The patterns are adorable, but it's too bad that the writer did not follow conventional knitting pattern standards when putting together this book.

The needle sizes listed in the book are wrong! I made one hat using the bulky yarn called for in the patterns on US 3 needles (like the book says) and it may fit a newborn. I switched to US 10 and it's going much better.Also the type of yarn specified in the book feels cheap and rough. I'm using a wool/ acrylic blend for the softness.Most of the patterns are the same except for the embellishments. The ideas are super cute and worth getting the book just for them. If you are not an experienced knitter, this book will frustrate you. I consider myself advanced and until I got the needles corrected, I was super frustrated.I also wish it went by measurements instead of rows. I think the items would turn out more uniform. There are really no measurements mentioned in the book at all.

I got this book primarily for the "Alien Elf" (Yoda) design featured on the front. I wanted to make it for my niece. It turned out really cute! I'm not even a super strong knitter, but my friend said cable knitting was easier than it sounded and it was! I made a second one for a doll I have! Now I'm looking at the other hats and they are all cute! I want to make the shark next. Make sure you get the appropriate sized needles and circle needles so it turns out right.My only complaint (and not a reason to deduct stars) is that they are not sized for adults!! ;)

I love the hats, so cute. My only problem is that the hat sizes don't turn out correctly for me So I've had to modify the pattern a bit. I used bigger needles and followed the directions correctly for the largest sized hat and the hat still was only big enough to fit a newborn. So I'm just changing the pattern (bigger needles, casting on more stitches and more rows). It makes a little more work for me but that's my only problem with the book.

As a beginner knitter, I was intimidated to purchase a knitting book. This book has clear instructions and stitch descriptions in the back. The materials are clearly listed for each project and were easily found at any craft store. There are also plenty of pictures to help you complete each project.My only negative is that the projects only go up to a 2-3 year old size. My older son was pretty jealous of the hat his younger brother received. If you are an experienced knitter, you could probably figure out how to make the patterns larger. Overall, great book!

I completely agree with what the other knitter have said regarding the needles. I thought the needles looked disproportionate to the photos but I tried anyway having faith in the designer. Nope! It wouldn't even fit a doll! So I ripped it out and started again this time with size 6 US needles. It was closer but still not right. I did finish knitting the hat with US 6 needles and it sort of fits my 1 year old. It's snug now and I doubt we will get a full winters use. I will knit it, again in a larger size. When I knit it again I will knit in rib in the increase section, I don't like the band in the middle of the ribbing. Also, I used m1 instead of yo because I like that look better.

I'm not sure which I love more, the cute kids in this book or the cute hats and other patterns!It is a thorough book. But the print is small and fair--It will probably require a magnifying sheet for people who are far-sighted. I think even some near-sighted people might have trouble with the print in this book.

This is a "must-have" for all adventurous knitters. Those who like to stay current with the fashion trends, this is the book for you! I loved it. Just browsing the patterns and instructions gave me the chills! I can't wait to start knitting some of these projects.Thanks to the author!

I first saw this book in a library so happy it's finally come, so fast too. Now I can return the library book. Been knitting hats and love them.

Haven't tried any of the patterns but from reading them sound easy enough.

Easy to understand, with some cute patterns that a relative beginner can manage to take on, and a few that I can work up to with a bit more practice. It's got a decent variety with some ideas I hadn't seen before. Worth it if you have some munchkins you want to keep warm!

well written easy to follow

Slowly knitting my way thru the book, can't keep up with the requests for hats from friends and family. Love the easy descriptions on each pattern. Show the book to whom ever will listen to me oh and awe over it.
