Sudoku Sums

Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied
This book was not created or edited well. It seems as though little to no effort was placed in creating the book, specifically the creation of the puzzles. The puzzles lack creativity, are not challenging, are repetitive, and have multiple options for the position of the numbers of the “sums” and solutions, within puzzles, which is very annoying and frustrating. Even for beginners, your interest will not stay piqued and I’d recommend multiple levels- you WILL become addicted to killer sudoku and the warm-up level will eventually bore you. This book frustrates more than maintains interest. If this is your first foray into sudoku, of the killer variety, please give the variant another try, under a different title and editor. I could not recommend this collection of killer, rather, killer-like, killer-ish, or killer-adjacent sudoku, in good conscience. I think I finished this book, in 2-7 restroom visits, and I think the higher number is generous. The reason for the star, well, you have to choose at least one, a very flawed rating code. The main reason is it fits nicely in a drawer of a vanity and there is one puzzle per page, which is getting harder and more difficult to find. One needs space to compute and list solutions! This was accounted for, in this book, at least, and the only positive or appealing aspect.Sincerely yours, the Killer Sudoku Zealot, Super Fanatic

I loved (and completed) every puzzle in this book.
This is one of the only puzzle books I could do, and enjoy, start to finish.

Fun
This is the perfect starting sum-duko book. Helps you learn the game before moving on to more difficult puzzles.

Lazy puzzle writer
I love this genre of puzzle, but this writer was too lazy to create good quality puzzles. Several puzzles had multiple correct answers. Another "cheat" is to include blank spaces in the grid which were not included in any of the sums. What I loved about this book was the size and its stiff cardboard back."Jumbo Sudoku Fusion" and "Will Shortz's Favorite Sudoku Variations" include these types of puzzles and I recommend them.

Different
It was nice to have different kinds of Sudoku to figure out. I still look for more and different ones, as I am bored with just the same regular kind. I liked the Sums Sudoku as it gave you an extra clue, and added some change.

best for a beginner
If you are looking for difficult puzzles this is not for you. These are quite easy as the vast majority of the sum combinations encompass only 2 cells.

Multiple solutions
Puzzles are of easy to moderate difficulty. Several puzzles have more than one solution, which is frustrating for a sudoku purist.

Too easy.
Repetitive, trivial, too easy.

Fun, but too easy
Sudoku sums is Sudoku, but with sub-blocks in which you must find the correct numbers by adding 2 or more numbers to fit a sum. I personally like it, as it's a cross between Kakuro and Sudoku. This book, however, lacked the challenge that makes Sudoku sums fun. It's basically for beginners, which is fine, but it didn't really have a learning curve. You could have started at the last puzzle and worked your way to the beginning just as easily as the other way around. And that's my biggest peeve with this book. If the puzzles had gotten progressively harder towards the end, it would have been much better, in my opinion. In short, if you are a beginner at Sudoku and Kakuro and like them, go for it. Sudoku sums is just as fun. If you find the easy Kakuro and Sudoku too easy, this might not be for you.
