A gruesome and grim satirical portrayal of two teenage social outcasts and what lead them to open fire on their fellow students and teachers before killing themselves. This cruel and gory film, the first made about the high school shooting phenomena originally screened Halloween 1999 was considered so controversial it landed the filmmakers in jail! Creating a nation wide Media extravaganza for FOX, ABC, CBS, Court TV and Entertainment Tonight!

WOW
I got this movie in hopes that it would be an actual movie, about the shooting at columbine in 1999... There are a string of School Shooting movies, most are Indie, because those are the only people with the guts to make a movie about a School Shooting. I've seen Hostage High, Elephant, HomeRoom, Zero Day, and Carbine High. Each one showed something slightly different. I think Zero Day is the cloest we will ever get to a Block Buster movie about the shooting, which is also why the Movie will no doubtly never be released... Elephant has almost no acting in it, and just shows a normal day at school. HomeRoom is more about coping with the horror, and Hostage High is about a different shooting. That leaves Carbine High as the only decent movie even close to the story of Columbine. It is done rather rediclous at points. It exaggrates events to unbelievable levels. They make fun of many parts of society, many sterotypes. Throughout the Movie, you watch two Boys who are picked on, who love fireworks, have an interest in Nazi Germany, and have suicidal thoughts. These are the only two characters of the movie that are even called by their names. Everyone else is referred to by their sterotype names such as "The bible Girl", "The Jock", "The Retard"... At first I thought it was creepy, but in reality it is just South Park level of exaggration added into dramatic events, to show you how rediclous things really are... I gave the Movie 5 Stars, because it throws political correctness out window, and shows you the truth in a simpleton way....

A wonderful moment of madness!
Mr Smack and Mr Hellfire are very brave for making this film. Some would say foolish, sick and insensitive but that would be just a blind, kneejerk reaction. For the broadminded, this is a biting satire that makes "Natural Born Killers" seem almost apologetic in it's criticism of American gun culture and the media glorification of gun toting psychopaths. Taking the tragic events at Columbine High School as it's basis, the film spends the majority of it's running time entertaining us with richly developed characters of a calibre rarely seen in mainstream crowd pleasers and some deeply black humour before assaulting our senses with the graphic massacre in the school. Smack and Hellfire aside, the acting is amateur hour stuff at best but it doesn't really matter as the two leads are so funny and convincing that the cartoonish characters around them help reinforce their alienation. If Trey Parker and Matt Stone had made "Natural Born Killers" it might have looked something like this. The full screen picture is very good for a shot on video production. Considering the low budget and shooting style it is sharp and bright with good colour. The stereo soundtrack is primitive but works well. A few lines of dialogue are poorly recorded but otherwise it sounds OK. This is the only available version I know of and it is quite expensive. It's well worth it though and all self respecting film lovers should own it.

Disturbing but Good
Yes, this movie will offend some people - especially those who just look at the surface. I enjoy controversial material because it often makes you think about life and who you might be. (OK, in the case of this tape, it only applies to the former.) I also confess I bought this because Misty Mundae claims that she is most proud of this role - according to her web site. The movie uses stereotypes and exaggrated incidences to make a point. It's done for a reason. There is a slim chance of any true spoilers here since most of us should know the essence of the ending. There is a bit more that happens here though.Although the focus is on the students who end up becoming the shooters, no one is truly spared from being picked on. The Bible Girl (played by Misty) has a little stunt pulled on her when she tries to organize a Bible youth group. The mentally impaired student is often ignored when he needs help. The Goth guy gets beat up often. One of the shooters-to-be gets a major beating.Let's face it. This type of thing happens to varying degrees across the nation, and most adults don't want to acknowledge that. I've experienced some of this years ago. This movie does poke fun at the experts who want to blame everything except the true reasons. The acting quality is inconsistent. Smack and Hellfire do a great job at the two trenchcoat students. Misty Mundae is better than usual as the Bible Girl. The two playing the Goth students are pretty good too.The production values are basically those of a home video - except for the titles. Many of the outdoor shots have the wind hitting the mic which seems to drown out the actors' voices. That basketball also seems very loud. If any special microphones were used, it might have been a zoom mic. However, it could easily have been the mic on the camcorder. Only a few scenes seem to use more than just the natural lighting or more than just the lamps in the room turned on. The scene involving the gun sale might be the only one with special lighting setup. The video camera used seemed to have a low lux rating. ("lux" is related to the video camera's sensitivity to light.)This is a movie I would recommend to anyone who is not easily offended. Parts of the movie are disturbing, but this is something that should be disturbing. We should try to understand why people do things and not jump to the easiest answers.
