Q: Why is it not recommended for leather sofa?

I am not certain, however I think it may slide and move around too much. As it is, on a fabric recliner, it needs to be adjusted a bit from time to time. Leather is smoother and a bit slippery so if you want to cover a leather sofa, you may want to find a cover with a gripping fabric on the back to hold it in place. Just my thoughts on the subject as I have had both leather and fabric sofas and recliners.
