Love the book!
Very happy with the book. i already have this author's Knitted Wild Animals (see my review) and these farm animals are just as wonderful and very satisfying to complete. the animals are knitted with two needles rather than double pointed needles, but seaming isn't a problem and the rooster that i made came out beautifully. the instructions are easy to follow and very specific. i like that the author quite frequently gives you the number of stitches that should be on the needle as you knit along, so that you don't get too far and then realize you might have forgotten to add a stitch some where.the photographs are close up and in detail and very helpful when determining the placement of wings, paws, eyes, etc. in the back of the book, the author also gives instructions on how to do the different techniques used in the book so that you don't have to go elsewhere to research a particular stitch if you are unfamiliar with it.i did come across a slight problem while knitting the rooster and the duck. on the rooster, when shaping the tail, on row 6, it says to "cast off 21 sts at beg of next row"...it doesn't say to "continue to knit to the end". because the author is always so specific, for some reason, i didn't understand what to do next. The same thing happened on shaping the neck of the duck. On row 6...she leaves off "continue to knit to the end of the row". it's probably not an issue with most people, but for some reason, i didn't figure that out right away. Duh! (and I've been knitting for 40 years! Go figure!!)other than that...i think the animals are adorable. the rooster is amazing...so much detail. i love him! The chicks that go with the hen are much cuter than the susan b. anderson chicks from "spud and chloe at the farm".the animals take time to knit because of all the detail...but believe me, they are worth the extra effort! (Please also see my review of Spud and Chloe at the Farm if you are thinking of knitting farm animals)

these aren't your grandma's sock monkeys!
These animals are utterly charming. The instructions are very clear, except for the horse's mane (I wound up creating it with small pieces of yarn, like your would do in rug hooking - and I am a very experienced knitter.) Other than that I have enjoyed making these for the grandchildren of a very special friend. Ordinarily, I don't do "cute" but these designs have a lot of personality. They are a lot of work, but the methods kept me interested in a project I would not have ordinarily considered making. I recommend this book for the smitten grandmothers or moms-to-be. The projects all call for a sport weight yarn and I would suggest acrylic yarn so they can be cleaned if they are loved to death. The figures finish up about 7-8 inches high; the perfect size to take to bed.

Working my way through the farm!
This book is fun in it's own right even if you don't knit. I thumb through it just for laughs. The photos are adorable and very helpful. They really are easy to make - I taught my neighbor how to knit and she went home and started the cat! It's almost done. Sarah is very skilled at explaining step by step how to make her little farm friends. The back of the book has all of the stitches you would need listed and explained as clear as day! If you knit, want to learn, or just love to look at fun and funny photos, get this book. Each animal has it's own section with oh so cute pics and fun facts. It's way to fun to pass up!

Exceeded Expectations!
These animals are extremely easy and fun to make. They knit up very quickly. As said in a previous review - when shaping the rooster's tail the instruction is to "cast off 21 sts at beg of next row." it should then state continue to knit to end of row. it does the same later when you cast of 21 purl wise - then you need to purl to the end of the row. For the most part I have stuck to the patterns but I did add a few extra rows in the horse's face to make it longer and made longer ears for the horse. This book has exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to start on the jungle animals :)

Beautiful gifts
The colored photographs show these toys at their best. Any child or collector would be delighted to receive one of these as a gift. The directions are clear and concise, and are easily adapted to any changes that you may wish to make. The first item I have made is the duck, which is almost complete, and I have made it considerably larger. I am pleased with the results of this pattern and look forward to trying the others. The duck will be dressed to resemble a female duck from a children's classic story, to join the other animals from the series of books by the same author. These animals take a short time to make, are economical, and are almost goof proof.

British style knitting and cute patterns. Diff from American style
I bought this for my grandaughter. It is by a Brittish knitter. It is different from American knitting and I am not able to help her learn with it. the patterns are cute and she was disappointed.
