Great Book! Buying to replace my old copy.
I am a big fan of Dr Colbert’s books. I own most of them and have been using the recipes out of this book for years & needed to replace my old spiral bound version. This was a great upgrade- I do wish the recipes were laid out in a way a bit easier to find but otherwise very pleased.

Healthier Food Choices for a Change of Heart!
The "What Would Jesus Eat Cookbook?" is one of those cookbooks that is enjoyable to read from cover to cover as it has so much health and nutrition information. I'll also bet you never have wondered what Jesus ate for dessert? The book was interesting in that regard! This book also has tips on how to lose weight and how to set up a healthy pantry. Some of the questions this book answers include:Why is it good to jump on a mini trampoline? (I've had one for weeks now and I love how I feel!)How many miles did Jesus walk in his lifetime? Why should you eat more grapes and how can you make a grape honey? What should you eat to reduce your LDL cholesterol? How many varieties of garlic and onions are there? Why is olive oil so healthy? How can honey help you fight insomnia? Some of the recipes to enjoy include:Pumpkin Banana BreadOven-Fried FishBeef and Mushroom StewYogurt Cheese (I've made that once and it is great!)Marinated AsparagusChilled Strawberry SoupBaklava with Honey Syrup (does contain sugar)This book is filled with delicious recipes and I'm looking forward to trying the first recipe for bread as soon as I get the ingredients. You may need to order organic whole wheat flour, wheat germ and wheat bran to make the recipe. I just did! While this book teaches biblical principles and especially food regulations from the Old Testament, many Christians may feel conflicted about the beverage section which includes information on the benefits and pitfalls of wine consumption. The author speculates as to whether or not Jesus actually drank fermented wine. I feel the dangers of drinking wine outweigh the health benefits if you get addicted or get liver disease. Due to taking medications I can't drink wine at all. So I think you will have to decide for yourself how beneficial that section of the book is.Otherwise this is an excellent cookbook with lots of interesting information.~The Rebecca ReviewP.S. Made the whole wheat raisin nut bread and I think it does need to bake for the full hour! Used a slightly smaller bread pan that was 8 1/2 inches long and was glass and that worked great. Anyone who has made banana bread can make this whole wheat bread easily. It is a bit like an Irish soda bread that requires only baking soda and baking powder instead of yeast. I used crushed Fleur de Sell in place of the Celtic salt and used low-fat buttermilk. It was delicious and my husband said the kitchen was scented like cookies! I think it is the cinnamon and honey in the recipe that makes it so good! I used Bob's Red Mill organic whole wheat flour and weighed each cup removing 2T so it made the weight 135 grams per cup for this recipe. If I'd used the whole cup it would have been 150 grams and too much! With regular whole wheat weighing may not be necessary.

Good recipes, bad theology
So I like the recipes in this one, it's not the worst out there. The big issue I have is the misreading of scripture to revert back to Old Testament dietary laws as a moral imperative. In Matthew 5:17-20, Jesus says that he has come to fulfill the law, not abolish it. Later in Acts 10:9-16, Jesus told Peter that he was free to eat unclean animals. So while the recipes themselves are good and usable, the theology is just not consistent with a full reading of scripture.

May I Take Your Order, Please?
A book review is every student's nightmare, but in fact, it is really a difficult task. How do your words convince you to buy something, in this day and age, that you can scam parts off of the web or piece together, or check out at the library? Not so easy, right? SPOILER ALERT! You will thoroughly appreciate this book! This is the must have cook book, bible study, lifestyle help reference you need. Keep it handy and use it daily. This book has nice photography, it shows me what the dish will look like. The pages are cleanable, easy to wipe, and can stay open with a little help.In a marriage, who makes the coffee? HE BREWS. That is the old funny answer to biblical advice to modern living. Dr. Colbert takes it to a much better level. He gives us pages of health care through the ages, what did the average person eat in the time of Jesus, how can we incorporate these foods and see those benefits that the medical field recognize as healthy.Health care advocates for the Mediterranean diet, these tips and recipes are healthy, delicious, and oh, so simple! A handful of ingredients make a flavor filled, healthy dish in record timing, fabulous! The author, is a famous doctor, television presenter, writer, and faith witness. He fills the pages with solid wisdom. Plate options, spice additions, and nutritional helps are sprinkled throughout the book. I enjoyed the historical aspect presented in the pages. Olive oil, how it is pressed and used, how would it have been used, eaten, and valued in history and its relevance to me and my day. Just in case I think, "WHAT?" The author inserts scriptural references that point directly to the material in this book. It is eye opening, had I not noticed that before? I loved the journey through the pantry and the Bible.Jesus may have eaten yogurt, berries, fruits, and nuts, but we call it a parfait. Simple raisin bread or milk and honey bread use the basic ingredients from that time and make for a delicious, healthy option today. He more than likely did not have a chilled strawberry soup, but he did enjoy the bountiful berries and produce in differing ways we may not use currently. Portions, options, alternative tastes, sodium or sugar replacements, baking, and cooking methods are sandwiched between lifestyle changes and moves that shape a new outlook. Maybe this Lenten season will have you trying lentils or grains in a new manner. Or serve a holiday tradition in a newer, healthier way. This book, What Would Jesus Eat, really is What Would Jesus Do. Now I can follow a healthier lifestyle in today's world easily, with the added blessing of growing spiritually and learning. This book is a blessing, one I am willing to share and enjoy.
