The picture of these shows an end that rotates, as found in traditional kaleidoscopes. The ones I received do not have a rotating end, you rotate the entire tube. Instead of colored glass pieces inside which change patterns as the tube is rotated, this has a static prism which changes the look of objects at which you point it. The only colors come from those objects, and the pattern does not change. I'll have to keep looking for the ones I want.

HUGELY disappointing. I got these as party favors for my 3-year-old's birthday party, but they're not kaleidoscopes. There are no colors, the shapes don't change (because there are no moving parts) - they're just very cute cardboard tubes with textured plastic over one end that makes some static refractive patterns. That's it. I'm attaching a picture of what my lamp looks like through it for reference. One more star because the kids used then as pretend spyglasses when playing pirate, and they seem sturdy.

These are a nice party favor - they didn't arrive broken, they look nice and have a nice variety of colors, and the kaleidoscope beads and effect work well. They're not the best thing ever of course, but nice for the money.
