Never Quit Survival Fire Whistle This multiuse survival tool can be used as an emergency whistle and a fire starter. The whistle is very loud and one side has a ferro rod (sometimes called a magnesium fire starter) with a detachable striker to easily create a spark. This unique whistle is so small and lightweight it can easily be carried anywhere! Take it with you while kayaking, hiking, and camping. It easily kits into a small survival kit. Use it as a key ring so you’ll always have it with you! Designed by a Special Operations military veteran with extensive survival training who has performed numerous rescue missions

These work great.
These things are surprisingly awesome. The whistle portion is quite loud, and once you scrape the black coating a bit, the striker and rod throw sparks quite well. I used one of these to start a fire with no problem at all using some homemade tinder (cotton with vaseline on it). Two scrapes of the little ferro rod, and the tinder went up and soon the fire was going. I use the black whistle as an EDC and keep the orange for camping for obvious reasons. They are quite flat and weigh very little so there's no reason not to carry one. There's a lanyard hole but I haven't used it. I will say that the striker cap has great retention, you have to press a little tab to separate the parts, so I would not be worried about losing the whistle if I wore or carried it on a lanyard.

A Backpackers Must!!!
For someone who wants to consolidate items in their hiking backpack, these things are a must. Recently, I have been trying to minimize my pack for day hikes this fall and a ran across these little gems. For those who are trying to lose some weight on your pack, THIS IS FOR YOU!Sure, it is a small whistle with a small ferro rod but don’t let the size fool you. The whistle seriously almost pierced my eardrums and the ferro rod throws sparks that are very comparable to my 6”x 1/2” ferro rod.The striker has a good bur on it which removes a good amount of material from the ferro rod making a shower of sparks. For those who don’t know, this is a sign of a good, soft ferro rod. Sure they may not last long but a hard ferro rod will make you cuss when trying to light your gas backpack stoves. This one, lite my stove on the second strike (first strike just removes the coating on the rod so that why it took 2, amateur mistake). With the ferro rod being attached to the whistle, you are able to keep a good grip when striking. For those who have tried using small ferro rods, you know how important this grip is.These will definitely be an asset to my pack and an addition to my return purchases. Great product!Update: I was reading some of the other reviews about the ferro rod only giving off little sparks and I think I know the problem. One side of the striker has a bur and the other side is very smooth. If you use the smooth side, you will only get a few sparks. If you use the bur side of the striker or even a knife with a good 90 degree spine, I promise, you will see a big difference.

My new EDC - Smallest whistle - fire stick combination that really works.
Whistle is sturdy, good sound, good shower of sparks after scraping varnish off the fire stick. Add this whistle to a Swiss Army or other Knife and Fenix EO5 LED and you have the complete EDC survival tool for EDC. In the past I used a Tool-Logic knife, LED,firestarter & whistle but it came apart. Tool-Logic Blade was poor quality and locking mechanism failed. I decided to choose three good tools, knife, LED, and whistle-fire-starter I looked on line for a month before deciding that this whistle had loud clear sound, good sparks, and would fit easily on split ring w knife and Fenix EO5 LED. -Will add pics soon.

Simple, Elegant, Exactly as Expected
How can I give a whistle 5 stars? Because it is the perfect piece of kit for hikers, campers, preppers, and the like. The whistle is plenty loud enough and the flat plastic form is easy to stash anywhere but most easily in your pocket. The inclusion of the firesteel on the edge is a great addition. Do I have firesteels that strike more easily and shed more sparks? Yes, but they are that softer formula for the steel that seems to use up the steel quickly. This firesteel works fine and has no trouble lighting a cotton ball with Vaseline, or other prepped tinder. It might be hard to get a feather stick to light or a pile of shavings but that could be true of many firesteels out there. I am especially thankful they didn't glue on one of those worthless button compasses which would lessen this item in my opinion. Stick with a few simple necessary things combined in a convenient form.

Not terrible, but not great.
Not so impressed. The whistle can't be heard in the woods more than maybe 30 feet away. And the striker is so thin and short I wouldn't really rely on this. Yes it would work in an emergency. I would recommend a dedicated Fox 40 (or similar) whistle and a more robust sparker

It lasted 2 days...
They were delivered Sunday evening. On Wednesday morning I pulled out my keys to go to work and the whistle was missing. The steel was still on my Keychain. Found the wistle part today in my yard and by the time I carried it back inside the flint rod fell off and now I have 3 separate pieces instead of one.... Not to mention the wistle is nowhere near the volume of what any rescue wistle should be.(I work in the outdoor industry, whistles are required by my job.)I would rather go with nothing at all than assume that I had a wistle and no be able to hear it when I need it. It's a false sense of security.

The best
The best ferro rod and striker ...ever! Have many and love them. I hope they are available again, because I’ll buy 20 of them. I have over 20 ferro rods, some expensive, and I love this product, over all of them! Please let me know when they are available again!John

I would not recommend!
Garbage. The removable clip with the key ring loop falls off with no effort at all. The ferisome rod fell off the first attempt to strike it. Save yourself the disappointment and throw your money right in the trash.
