Didax Educational Resources Unifix Letter Blends Cubes Set Medium

This is a great product when used as a complete set. I have the basic set of vowels (red) and consonants (blue) that I use with the "blends" cubes that includes consonant blends (green and yellow) and vowel diphthongs (gold). I use them with the CVC cards to play various games. It is very useful that the color coding makes the closed syllable type clear.With the caveat that I highly recommend these products as is, here are some things I would like to see improved:1) The ink should be more indelible. I use sharpie to touch up worn letter.2) Certain phonics improvements: a) "Q" should always be "QU" since it is /kw/ where the "u" is part of the /kw/ blend, not a vowel. b) Some of the "CH" digraphs would be "TCH" for that single sound as a spelling pattern. c) Similarly, a "DGE" cube would help with another single phoneme. (Hard to get all that on a cube, but worth it.3) More cubes needed in the set for frequently used combinations in the "blends" pack: aw, ew, ow; ar, er, ir, or, ur;4) There are 6 syllables (Open, closed, vowel-consonant-e, diphthong, R-controlled, consonant-le) A special colored le cube for the constructing the C-LE syllables: ble, cle, dle, fle, gle, ple, stle, and tle5) There should be a set of multiples of the most important beginning "sight words": a, is, was, to, too, of, the, you, your, they, said, have, from, one, two, been....6) It would be super to have more of the card for other formats of CVC syllables (CCVC, CVCC, CCVCC)7) More cards for the various syllables formats.8) I would like to see the whole set in one package instead of having to collect them separately.Unifix cubes are terrific for reading as well as math.

Order was earlier than expected. Cubes are identical to the counting cubes I bought a couple years ago, so quality is both durable and fit together well. I am expecting they will be a good supplement to our reading / phonics program. Thanks. Don't think I would do anything any differently

My grandson has been using these since he started school, he's now in 2nd grade and an excellent speller! He's very visual, "hands on", so these really play a huge part in his learning! We have all the Unifix letter cubes and use the "sets of tens" for math, too! Having no trouble with letters rubbing off like other reviewers have mentioned - my only regret is that there is not a cube with "wh"!

I teach reading in an elementary school. These blend cubes are engaging for the children and easy to manipulate. I like that the vowel blends are one color, the beginning consonant blends are another color, while the ending consonant blends are another color (orange, green and yellow). This set meshes well with the Unifix Letter Cubes; Red/Blue; 90 Piece Set; no. DD-2810 which uses red & blue for single consonants and single vowels. I think these two sets are going to tremendously help children gain that all-important sound-symbol relationship while they have fun building words.

I really like these. The only problem I have with them is it does not have zz, nor qu.

I am a phonics tutor and I wish I'd found these cubes a long time ago. Teaching blends is one of the most challenging parts of teaching phonics and my students love using the manipulatives to make new words and sound them out.

Amazing learning tool, highly recommend
