I am a nurse ..on my feet many hours... BUT I have suffered from extreme back pain with 2 bulging discs, sciatic pain causing numbness and loss of feeling in my legs at times, many falls due to numbness... bursa on both hips, sleepless nights and years from throbbing and excruciating pain... depression and severe frustration!!!I have suffered so long so finally when I was ready to give up my career.. I searched online for the best and comfortable shoe when on feet for many hours....and the Berkie (made by Birkenstock) was one off a few that came up. I read reviews and decided to take the chance .. as my last option! I recieved quickly and started wearing immediately. The hard sole concerned me.. was not a fan of the look and they were not the most comfortable shoe ... I struggled the first week as I wore them in ..back pain remained ...even had a couple blisters ... BUT a week in I started realizing that things were changing! I was getting half way thru a shift til I was feeling back pain.. driving home after shift was not as painful..and I was waking less from pain in the night... so I was hopeful! A week and a half into wearing Birkies ... I made it thru shifts without pain or discomfort... the blisters disappeared and the sole was forming around my foot shape !1 month in... I can say I have ZERO pain..ZERO discomfort ... ZERO numbness ... ZERO discomfort driving home from work... ZERO pain meds needed... ZERO wakeful moments while sleeping ... ZERO pain what so ever !! I dont understand it.. but I need to get the word out to people suffering as I have for so long ... I am the happiest nurse ever !!! The shoes are comfortable...they are slip resistant... I can fully disinfect after my frontline Covid19 shift...I work an entire shift without any form of discomfort ... I am off pain meds... I have zero back pain... I have not had numbness or sciatic pain in over a month and a half... I am ecstatic !! I cant stop telling people my story ... friends...family ..doctors ... or anyone who knows my long history of suffering and especially anyone who I encounter complaining of any form of knee... hip... or chronic back pain !! Please before you give up... these are a MUST try !! .. I still shake my head everyday as to how a pair of shoes can make such a difference .. all I can say is... I dont understand it... BUT after too many years of suffering ... sleepless nights.. pain so bad it led to depressive episodes ... 6 + years of pain blocks weekly at a chronic pain clinic... tried every muscle relaxant and every pain med on the market ...daily physiotherapy...& I AM PAIN FREE !!! If my promotion can help others... I had to give a review !! I sure hope that you try and get the same result !!! ... now I am ready to search and look for whatever Birkenstocks has to offer !

I love Birkenstocks but, my experience with the original leather clogs in the hospital were not good. I have since tried every type shoe I could find to meet the rigors of my work environment with mixed and only moderate at best, success. I've worn these Birki's for a week now and did expect to need more time to break them in and to have the insoles mold to my foot pattern. Clearly in more time that will happen even more but, I have been very pleased with the level of support these shoes give me at this point.. No sore spots on my feet after long days and in fact, my feet were not painful at the end of the day. Indicating to me adequate support at the arch and other pressure points. Because of the slight heel cup, my feet do not slip out of these shoes as they did in clog type shoes. This is a great safety feature, especially in a fast paced and sometimes messy environment. I normally wear the open foot pattern size and these fit well. No extra room though, so if you have particularly high arches or wide feet these may not work for you. But definitely give them a try. I wear thick socks with mine for additional cushioning. The shoes are quite firm but, not as much as traditional Birkenstocks. Although made of vinyl/plastic material do not compare these to the feel of "Crocs" There is no comparison to the springy nature. That being said, they are far superior in support. And to my mind, better than going barefoot in that they cradle my feet in a natural position. I have recommended them to my co-workers.

I normally wear a 38 (which I ordered originally), but they seemed a bit too snug (I have wide feet and a high instep), so I returned them for the 39, which fit much better. They are super comfy. I normally wear orthotics, but haven't had to replace the insoles (the ones they come with) at all, even when wearing them all day. They are perfect for the fall/winter, as I am a swimmer (5 days a week) and go to the gym (three days a week) who takes her shoes on/off quite frequently, so they are a great addition to the wardrobe - hassle free baby!! LOL
