We bought this steel deck box to keep the bears and squirrels out of our bird seed. People have told me that the squirrels will eat a plastic one and I believe it. My husband and I who are both rank amateurs put it together just fine. Of course it took longer than stated but we expected that. The directions to print can be found on the company’s website. But, even we put it together in different order than the instructions and still it went together fine. Amazingly the holes for the sheet metal screws all lined up perfectly. How do they do that!? In regards to packaging. Our box was a bit damaged and a few pieces were bent. We straighten them with pliers and banged one piece flat with a hammer. It did not effect the box at all. In regards to thickness, it’s not as thick as you might think but it is very sturdy. The first thing I did after putting it together was sit on it. It did not buckle or bend. It weighs 70lbs and it is easy to push it around the deck. It’s nice and big and my garbage cans with bird seed in them and all my bird feeders fit inside. I would highly recommend this box to anyone but particularly to bird lovers.

I used this for outdoor patio storage. It holds cushions for two lounge chairs, 4 seat and seat-back cushions for around the table, a few throw pillows, and the hammock (diagonally). You could probably get much more in if you wanted to stuff it further. My husband set it up and it did require a drill bit to realign some holes. Plus, some of the instructions are missing details (see images, I wrote in the missing parts!) Be patient. It's worth the assembly.

This box is exactly what I need to keep the clever little squirrels out of my bird food! Seem sturdy and I think it seems to be weather- proof. However, it is not the easiest thing to assemble. The instructions are pretty good and all of the parts were included, but there was no way I could have done it alone. Just holding up the parts to insert the screws requires two fairly strong people. The hardest part is attaching the top with the hinges. The nuts for the bolts are very tiny and hard to get started. Works best with plyers and screwdriver. Took my husband and me about two hours to finish it. That being said, I'm happy I ordered it since the resin boxes I had both were chewed to bits! Unless the squirrels learn to lift the lid, I don't think they will get into this one!

I bought this deck box because it's made of steel. I've gone through two deck boxes because rodents have chewed through the plastic ones to nest or for whatever reason. It really wasn't to bad to put together. It looks great too.

Previous plastic deck box was used by squirrels as a tooth sharpener, and was ruined. Bought this steel product and it completely stymied the rodents, is completely dry, plenty of space, and has not rusted or chipped paint at all. Will last for years.However, I agree that their packaging is insufficient and there’s a good chance a corner will be crumped during shipment. I used a hammer and screwdriver/steel bolt/wood block to pound it back into shape. Their basket weave exterior finish effectively disguises imperfections. Assembly is not easy, and requires carefully following the instructions, step by step. Two people are recommended but I was able to assemble it solo. Kinda like assembling a bicycle. Or two.

Very hard to assemble. The holes were not aligned and each one had to be opened up a bit because they weren't drilled wide enough. Many stripped and broken screws. Shipping was awful and the box seemed open. There were no directions in the box so I had to find them online. After full assembly the lid cloeses on an angle because the metal sides are not straight. Too expensive to be of this poor quality. Great idea, poor execution.

And it's not that difficult to put together, but it would be a good idea to ask someone to help you with it. I did it alone out on my back deck and it was a bit tough at times. But, not impossible, and worth the effort.It sits on my deck under the eves and catches a lot of rain water, but has stained dry inside. Even when opening the lid, the water rolls of the back and NOT into the box. Perfect!

I bought this box as a outdoor storage box for my bird seed storage in order to defeat those pesky raccoons. It works perfectly for that job and is plenty big enough. The box uses thin metal and can be flexible if you don’t follow instructions and use all of the screws. Assuming you do, it comes together to be ridged. Be sure you use all the screws and tighten them. However, the light weight is good as it is easy to move around but is strong enough. It is definitely rain resistant but probably not storm tight. I gave this box three stars because construction is a bi***. It uses small cheap screws that are located very close to the edges. If you have fat fingers, then – Good Luck. You definitely need a magnetic screwdriver. They also recommend an awl to align and widen the predrilled holes. This is my chief complaint; they could do a better job there. Some holes are very tight, and difficult to screw in. Most often, you need to slightly angle out the screws to get leverage, which makes it more difficult. But if you get through all of this, it is an excellent buy, and should provide good long-term service. For my use, the ‘Best Buy’.
